I will reserve judgment until I see the final product, from what I saw from the "Sailor Moon" panel at the anime convention, the footage appeared decent a clear improvement over the DVD remasters, however looks can be deceiving and I realize this. All the same I am remaining optimistic about this Blu-ray release, and am hoping that Viz Media does a great job on the restoring the film footage of the show. ![]() |

Shame on Viz for what?! They said what they were working with from day 1. If it's a shame on anybody it's these random blog post and forum post of people acting like they have some insider information, when they don't. They know as much as we do, and they need to stop making BS up and trying to pass it up as fact. I don't know why some people are going out of their way to be completely negative about this release. They need to stop instigating and calm their behinds down and wait for the release. |

I wish VIZ could release these sets faster. Hulu is already up to episode 20. At this rate I'll see all 200 episodes subbed before I finish the first season of the show on BD (especially since the BD releases are half season).

![]() This was the first negative thing I had heard about the upcoming blu-rays, so I was pretty shocked (especially since Viz's Ranma 1/2 blu-rays are good quality releases). I realize the discs aren't out yet, but from what Viz has said in their interview with ANN and the screenshots provided in that same interview... maybe they should have just done a DVD release and skipped blu-ray altogether. |

It doesn't they are the promotional images that VIZ provided when the license was first announced. Also if they were from the stream and keep in mind that these promo shots were released before the stream started there would be the neon ally logo in the corner. I agree I don't think the shot is indictive of the quality of the final Blu release but they are directly from VIZ.

So in other words, they are mockups. Not actual images from the Blu-ray. Like I said, the image that says "Blu-ray" on it, aren't actual screens of the Blu-ray provided by VIZ. VIZ wouldn't create the Blu-rays before announcing the licensing deal.

I don't see how people can keep denying the Blu-Ray release of Sailor Moon isn't going suffer overdone DNR (just like Dragon Ball Z Remastered):
The interview at ANN makes it clear the Blu-Ray releases will be an upscale. The screenshots with the initial announcement at ANN aren't mockups, Viz Media would already be working on the project. The initial screenshots show a clear loss of details for Blu-Ray, compared to the previous DVD releases. The HD streams are higher quality than the previous DVD releases, so any comparisons are valid. Nor does compression cause the complete lack of detail and grain that is clear in these comparisons. Viz Media is trying to make the original Sailor Moon look more modern in order to get new and casual anime fans to buy the series. And unfortunately it seems to work, judging by how Dragon Ball Z Remastered continues to sell well. |

The Blu-Ray masters, would be produced long before release, due to the time required for quality assurance, duplication, packaging and shipping. People keeping denying facts. but fail to provide any evidence that this won't occur. Viz Media in particular are known for their complete lack of care, and been only interested in sales. With anime series (i.e. Hunter x Hunter) missing segments (new opening or endings sequences), incomplete anime releases (i.e. Monster), or anime titles not released at all (i.e. Zoids Genesis). |

The original assets (for season one, at least) are gone. This is truly the best that Viz (and Toei) can do. It's still the best that this series has ever looked; and yes, I own the R2(2009) Japanese DVDs, and this looks much better. Farewell, sunburned Usagi!
