I picked up Prince of Darkness at a local Movie Stop today during lunch break.

Context is everything, in terms of my appreciation for this particular John Carpenter movie. I was a sophomore in high school when this movie was released back in 1987, and most of my friends were metalheads. I myself was more into punk music and alternative music, but I related to the metalhead crowd more than most others at my school, and I had some fun times rolling with that crowd. You couldn't throw a rock in the air at a theatrical showing of Prince of Darkness without hitting someone with a Slayer - Reign in Blood concert T-shirt or an Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time T-shirt. Prince of Darkness is not the best Carpenter film by any remote stretch of the imagination, but it has some crazy awesome moments, especially during the final scene. I felt this way even at the time, but I still got a kick out of the film at the theater and during my multiple rewatches with a dubbed VHS tape. Alice Cooper is a blast to watch, and Lisa Blount was so beautiful in this film. More than anything, though, I'm expecting to to revisit this film for the first time in a long while tonight and have a lot of funny high school memories come flooding in that are associated with my friends, their Slayer obsessions, and our constant discussions of this movie around school for a couple weeks after we saw it at the theater.

If any of you relate to the above paragraph, then cue the devil horn hand gestures and the head-banging.

Got a feeling Scream are gonna hit this one out the park on friday. Last years slate was a bit of a letdown for me(wasn't there some deals that fell through at the last minute though?) so i think this year they will come armed with some big titles, "Phantasm" being the standout.

With 10 titles, you have to figure they'll have at least 2-3 titles people here will be excited about.

To be fair i think the people on here will be excited about them all to varying levels because we're pretty well versed but i know what you mean, i think they will have those 2/3 titles that even casual fans will take notice of.

Yep. I consider myself a huge horror fan, but if I did not grow up watching a cheesy b-horror movie, I probably won't love it now. Something like Killer Klowns, which I adore, but probably wouldn't had it been the first time I saw it much like the way I felt recently when I saw MOTEL HELL. Enjoyable but nothing I would buy.

As much as I love the first one, I actually like Part II a bit better. I thought Traci Lind was great in this one - a large part of what made this one so enjoyable for me.

I have a feeling Sleepaway Camp, Night of the Demons and Witchboard were the titles that were intended to be announced at Comic-Con, but weren't because the deals didn't close in time.

Now there's a classic that definitely deserves a Blu-ray release. Haven't seen this one in a while.

Last year's anemic trio of Eve of Destruction, Darkman and Cat People felt more like a bad joke so, yeah, this year has to be better

I'm abit like that too, nostalgia i suppose. A few do still do it though, i did'nt see "Night of the Creeps" till about 6 years ago but its an all time favourite now.

I hear you mate, an absolutely stunning woman. Shes great in "Class of 1999" and "My Boyfriends Back" too.

I think you're right and tbf they would of been some big titles, i bet Cliff was gutted with half of what he had to announce.

Least we got "Saturn 3" to bump up the classic quota

Hey! I like Darkman and Cat People way more than every single title mentioned in the last few pages other than Candyman 1, ROTLD3 (I LOVE this movie for some reason), REC 1, and Phantasm 1! And I think it's been established there's no hope for them.

I would certainly buy the heck out of The Fly II, Little Girl who Lived Down the Lane, Shock Treatment (love that Jessica Harper even if the movie sucks), or Bubba Ho-Tep though.

Dawn of the Dead is bizarre in that it's one of my favorite movies of all time, but I've just pretty much given up all hope of any bluray ever outdoing the 4 disc DVD set, and thus don't really pay attention to release rumors. I still watch that (the various cuts with the various commentaries, and the documentary) all the time.

That's the most logical assumption about how the Theatrical Cut came to be a limited part of the set.

The Warner stance is still the same. They do not sublicense unless its a RARE occasion when other factors make it so. In other words... This was a one-time fluke. I don't see them (or realistically, ANYONE) cracking open the WB vault anytime soon.
Shout has also licensed WB titles for MST3K sets, but since those don't include the regular un-MST3K versions of the films it's not exactly something to hang one's hopes on, either.

Fingers crossed for "Shocker" too.
+1. Saw the YT copy last year (first time in about 18 years!) and still loved it. Classic 80s campy-horror. Traci Lind was bloody gorgeous too.

Actually the joke didn't hit until we found out about the DNR master...unfortunately.

It's a true classic, and personal favorite.
That being said its probably not coming from them anytime soon.

Technically speaking they are Warner Bros films, they are licensed episodes of MST3K. The addition of the hosts makes it a separate work apart from the actual film. And even if Warner owns some of the MST3K episodes (apart from their film version) Warner TV and Warner Film are two different departments, and in reality two different bodies that have different stances on liscensing out titles.

Has Shout! Factory or Scream Factory ever acknowledged the pole or said that they are keeping track of top requested titles?

Not trying to be a jerk, but you talk about it so much that I just don't want any part of it anymore, plus it's in no way official nor will it have any bearing on what titles Scream release. On top of that, even if Scream were to take what we think into consideration, they could just read this threads comments for the titles people are excited about and want to see, rather then look at a constantly changing poll.

Polls are fun when used occassionally especially when they relate to specific movies/parts of movies. (Ie. What's you favorite Friday the 13th movie). but when you have a never ending poll with 100 titles on it, that has no direct link to the studios themselves, it really doesn't seem that interesting. I'd love for all of the titles on your list to be released, whether I like them or not as there are fans for about every movie out there.
