Default Blu-ray Players for Fathers Day

Hey out there. Havent been up to date with what is the best bluray player out currently, or more of which models to stay away from. Trying to buy my father one for Father's Day, any suggestions?

If I were to go for a standalone player, I would choose the Samsung BD 1500 for $399. The best purchase is a 40 GB PS3, especially with the Walmart $100gift certificate. However, older consumers usually prefer a "standard" player to a gaming console/BD player. You know your Dad best, so it is up to you.

Yea, i know he wouldnt want a ps3 and it would probably confuse him, lol. From what it sounds like, the Samsung is the best one to go with?

FYI, that same $100 gift card is available at WalMart if you buy the Samsung BD-P1500 this week, and the price there is only $348. Net price, $248 - if you can find one in stock...They've all been sold out around me. Perhaps you could get a Best Buy to match the offer.

I have been extremely happy with my Panasonic - not a single issue yet.

I dunno!

with wireless internet and pretty much the best updates for life, its a hard player to turn down.

I know people have that stigma about "gaming machines"...but its just another device that sits on a shelf and performs its duty.

No other player has capabilities like a PS3.

I got my father to buy one, and perhaps he will never use all the features....but just knowing it will forever get updates and any added features down the road will more than likely be possible on the PS3.

...if its a standalone, then I guess I would go with the Panny BD50. (or BD30 if price matters)

Most likely we are going to get my dad the P1500 for father's day today at walmart, as it would be to complicated for my dad/mom to use the PS3 as a blu-ray player. But I will definitely be getting a PS3 for myself, to bad my local walmart doesnt have the MGS PS3 in stock, as i was going to use the $100 gift card from my dads P1500.
