USA Bunny Lake Is Missing (1965) - November 11, 2014 - Limited to 3,000 copies

Pre-order http://www3.screenarchives.com/title...-MISSING-1965/

Courtesy of Twilight Time.

Quote:
A conspiracy of madness.

When Ann Lake (Carol Lynley, The Poseidon Adventure) goes to pick up four year old Bunny at her new preschool in London, she's told that no child by that name is enrolled there! Superintendent Newhouse (Academy Award winner Laurence Olivier, Best Actor, 1948, Hamlet; The Boys From Brazil) of Scotland Yard is assigned to the case. His suspects include: Steven Lake (Keir Dullea, 2001: A Space Odyssey), the child's protective uncle; Horatio Wilson (Noel Coward, The Italian Job - 1996), the Lake's decadent landlord; and Aida Ford (Martita Hunt, Anastasia), the school's eccentric ex-headmistress, but he soon learns that no one has actually seen the child and there is absolutely no proof that Bunny ever existed! Ann maintains the child's been kidnapped, but Newhouse begins to suspect that the hysterical young woman may just be insane. Bunny Lake is Missing is director Otto Preminger's (Anatomy of a Murder) controversial masterpiece of terror and suspense.
IMDB - 7.3 ( 3,977 users )

Rotten Tomatoes - 82% ( 11 reviews counted )

Is this the film with the scene with a bunch of porcelain dolls staring. I remember a movie from a while back with that scene because it was creepy as heck, but can't remember if it's from this one. If so, this was a pretty decent film if I'm not mistaken.

I really dug this movie all the way up to the reveal. Boy... the whole
[Show spoiler]"they were crazy the whole time!"
bit was too much for me, especially how "out of left field" it was done. I know they tried to cover their tracks with the "oh, THAT's why that happened", but it felt like cheating.

I am doing everything I can not to spoil, but frankly there was a part of me that was a bit pissed off, not just in
[Show spoiler]the reveal but how the wife started playing with the real culprit like it was perfectly normal. I get she was buying time before the cops got there (I think.. I don't remember her calling them)
.

This is a 4K restoration, according to Nick Redman. It should look gorgeous on blu-ray.

Haven't seen this Preminger film, but a 4k scan seals the deal for me.

This is a really excellent movie - great suspense thriller. Really daring for 1965. Also a great presentation - beautiful 4K restoration. I'm happy to have this one in my collection and I can't recommend it highly enough!

I just finished watching the Twilight Time Blu-ray of Bunny Lake is Missing, and am now enjoying the commentary.

After this first viewing, I'll give Bunny Lake is Missing five stars across the board. The mystery itself stretches realistic credibility in ways, but the visuals of the movie and the sheer mind-bending unpredictability of the story, especially during the final 15 minutes, provide a nonetheless gripping experience.

Bunny Lake is Missing kicks off with beautiful Saul Bass opening credits, and then proceeds straight into a narrative maze of characters with potentially shady intentions and even characters that may not be real at all. Otto Preminger's directorial brilliance shines, although this is not one of his most notable efforts, and his ability to navigate the viewer through weaving plot turns that served him so well in his film noir titles is present in full. Carol Lynley is perfect in the lead role as a frightened mother whose unhinged mannerisms lead the viewer in circles. Keir Dullea, who would later achieve fame as Astronaut Bowman in Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, is a fittingly unnerving choice for the concerned and protective brother. Laurence Olivier provides a strong center of gravity with which the audience can relate. The black-and-white cinematography is, at turns, intimate, puzzling, and nightmarish.

My thanks goes to Twilight Time for unearthing this relatively obscure classic for newer viewers like me. This is one of my favorite titles from the label.

Wait, you give almost everything 5 stars across the board....

Seriously though, I did enjoy it when I watched my copy about a month ago and thought the PQ and AQ were great.
