Default I'm taking the ACT tomorrow

I've been studying for the last few days. I've gotta get a 30 on this test if there's any chance of me getting accepted into MIT. I've never been this nervous about a test on my life. I'll probably end up with a 28 on it, which is enough to get me into Oklahoma University, but if I want to get into MIT then I've gotta score higher.

Anyways, I hope everyone is having a great time playing MGS4 while I'm studying

I'm trying to program my TI84+ silver to do some of the math for me..lol
TI-BASIC FTW

Bah, the ACT is a joke, I walked in after not having slept for a couple days, spent the night drinking, and other nefarious deeds about an hour before the test. Walked out with a 28. At the time that was more then good enough for MIT even with a low ranking, I guess they've gone up since then. You'll do fine on it.

I'm taking the GRE in 4 months. Ah - to be young again and worry about such things as the ACT. You seem like a smart chap, Aaron, what with all the mathematical/engineering humor you seem to enjoy - go play some MGS4.

I didn't do a thing to prepare for it and I got a 31, I think. Been awhile (and how sad it is to think about how long ago). If you're even in the realm of being a consideration for MIT, it should be a breeze.

But, if you don't get your score you can be the janitor. It worked for Matt Damon

I do a lot of programming, and the mathematics involved with it fascinates me. I'm doing a 2 week Calculus crash course now, it's required for AP Physics. I want to go into software engineering.

I'm getting MGS4 tomorrow after the test

1986 I took ACT and SAT. In those days, it never crossed my mind to prepare. I just showed up on Saturday and took the tests. I got either 30 or 32 on ACT and 1340 on SAT, which I think was plenty good for engineering school at U. of Michigan (a fine, fine engineering school). In later years, I taught prep courses for The Princeton Review, and never could figure out why these kid who already had scores over 1500 were pressing on. It's all about the dots, anyway. My wife and I both have the gift. God shines a light on the dots that need to be filled in, and you fill them in. Goodness knows there are many brilliant individuals who could not fill in dots who had to settle for goals that were not their highest. I empathize with them.

Just got back.

The English test was simple, I probably got a 35 on it.

The math test was ***** and a half. There was TWO Algebra problems. I'm damn good at Algebra, and there wasn't even any on the test. Everything was Geometry, which I'm not very good at. I can do Calculus but not Geometry. It amazes me. I probably got a 25 on the Mathematics test.

The reading comp test was kinda hard to do in 35 minutes. If I had an hour I could have got every one right. I'm guessing that I got a 25 on it.

The Science test was hard as holy hell. I hate analyzing data. I might have got a 24 on it.

AH!! Maybe I won't get into MIT...lol

I think I may have been the only person who thought the Science Reasoning was easy as hell. Granted I took it the ACT the last time in 2002, but it was cake. I got a 33 (32 English, 34 Math, 30 Reading, and 35 Science Reasoning) but yet here I am 6 1/2 years later still in college. I had parents of other students find out how well I did and ask me for advice. All I did was eat breakfast so that my stomach wasn't growling during the first 2 hours before the break.

The SAT sucked though (1270). Those analogies can suck a banana.

My GF took the ACT yesterday as well. She is not good at math by any means. I'm good, so I helped her study as much as possible, but shes doubting that she passed. She's trying to get into Florida Gulf Coast University.

I took the SATs once...did well in school but never really had aspirations or means to go to college...Now, I consider myself a smart guy, people tell me I'm one of the smartest people that they have ever met. I'm a good problem solver but I can't pay attention long enough to go through the reading comprehension stuff (I get bored easily and can't keep attention on things for too long - kind of ADD-like). I scored a 940 on my SATs...

Some people just don't take standardized tests well...its a shame that so much merit is given them, especially with school admissions.

wow i just took the ACT yesterday also. English was easy as always, math im good at so that wasnt to hard. And yes your right NO TIME whatsover for the reading part. There were 3 sections and i couldnt even get to the 3rd one. Im not a fast reader but if you give me time i can really understand it. And then Science section, is the worst. So much crap in there that doesnt even matter. uggh. i hope i did good. last time i got a 22 or something.

The reading test was easy as hell, but not when you have 35 minutes to do it. I could easily score a 35 on everything if we had about 2x the time.

The science test was really hard. Did you take the ACT+ Writing?

The math test was kinda hard for me. Was your math test Algebra or Geometry? Mine was like 99% Geometry.

mm math was mix and match yet there was not alot of geometry, maybe one or two problems.

but yeah, im sure any of us could make a 36 on it if we had a bunch of time. Thats why i hate the ACT. i dont see it as a true test of knowledge. all it is, is a test of speed. Its bullcrap

oh and no i did not take ACT + writing. That would suck. although im pretty good at writing...hah

100% agreed.

I frickin' hate geometry. I'm good at Algebra, and some Calculus, but Geometry takes me a while..lol I was surprised to see a limit equation though, I had no idea that there would be any Calculus.

My writing topic was "Some lawmakers believe that companies shouldn't be allowed to advertise their products if they can potentially harm the user, explain your stance." or something along that line.
