And that's what the seemingly negative comments are stemming from... This director made CHRONICLE, which mimicked comicbook characters, and was an original project that became it's own thng... Now he's hired to reboot an existing source of material, with a solid fan base of history, and changing it into something completely different, similar to what they recently did with FRANKENSTEIN, in the box office disappointment, I, FRANKENSTEIN.

Just because you can change the story and character arcs around for the sake of being different, doesn't mean you should take a dump on 50yrs of source material...

It's like MARVEL announcing the the Thor will be a woman... WTF? Create a new woman character, or reintrouduce existing ones who have unexplored arcs, but why turn characters with decades of history gender, or sexuality to something else, instead of making the world around them more interesting?

Does Wolverine need to actually contract AIDS, or, does Black Widow needs to become a Lesbian, to tell that arc?

I dunno, I'm still having a hard time believing Fox are THAT stupid. Then again, they left Deadpool on the shelf, even after that awesome test footage so they couldn't be too bright, the execs at Fox.
That initial question leaves reasonable speculation for hope... your end remark, unfortunately, sheds more light on the obvious that seems unavoidable...

Wasn't it just a couple weeks ago a cast mentioned the script as being ever evolving and that they are learning as they go? Now all of a sudden they wrap filming? Man this is going to be a mess.

The movie hasn't wrapped. Kate Mara has finished shooting her scenes, but filming is still in progress.

They're all saying they've wrapped. Not just Mara.

I still think this film's gonna suck; the box-office exceeding the budget by a single dollar would be a near-miracle, in my opinion.

I don't think it's just me, but after seeing the first two movies, and watching the cartoons when I was younger, I think this is terribly miscast. I've heard Fox is just trying to get this made so they can retain the rights, but jeez, at least make SOME effort.

I hope it is so bad that Disney sues them for hurting the characters and gets the rights back . I mean its not like they can take these guys very far , they belong in the cosmic and Fox don't own the cosmic Marvel does .

Sorry to just "JUMP IN" to this thread (I'm not on here very much anymore) but it has been my opinion for a long time, that no studio can EFF up a release like FOX and Lauren Shuler Donner. When FOX starts meddling (which they are known to do OFTEN) they end up JACKING SHITE up, bad. It seems like the studio is trying to be the anti-marvel and just use the source material as inspiration instead of using it for themes/storys/arcs to draw from. In my opinion, from what I've heard, I think this will be monumentally bad. Worse than the damn adamantium bullet, ugh. Worse than the train wreck that was theatrical version of Daredevil (I actually think the director's cut isn't bad). Worse than Elektra. But only time will tell. I will still watch it and formulate an opinion after I see it, because I know I can be wrong. Heck, I'll be the first to admit, when my buddy and I saw the preview for Guardians of the Galaxy, I said "Yeah, don't see this one doing well." Haven't seen it yet, but my buddy called me a dipshit and said I'd really dig it. Such is life.

EDIT:

I like Kate Mara, IMO I think she is incredibly cute, and quite talented. Saying that, I think she's HELLA miscast for this role.

I hope somewhere in this movie someone makes a comment like "Damn, we're just like the Fantastic Four from the comics!!!" Thus giving this movie its name and giving us one hell of a twist.

In all fairness, Lauren Shuler Donner was the producer for all the "X-Men" films so far, and only two - "Origins" and "The Last Stand" - have seen a less than stellar reception. That leaves four of them untainted, and the whole series has grossed over $3 billion globally. She's doing something right; no one can reasonably argue otherwise.

As for "Daredevil", I blame two people for that film's theatrical performance: Gary Foster and Avi Arad. Director Mark Steven Johnson wanted to show Matt Murdock as a defender of the helpless with his mind and heart, not just his muscles. But as I've heard it, someone at Fox wanted more romance, and Foster chose to side with Arad over Johnson. Thankfully, the execs kept hold of Johnson's edit, and allowed him to release it on DVD. Now, its the only version available on Blu-Ray...which to me, means Johnson got the last laugh.

So... how bad does the reboot need to flop before Fox just throws in the towel and quits throwing money at a possible franchise and let the rights expire and eventually return to Marvel (or sells the rights back to Marvel, to allow them to have access to the characters sooner)

Yeah, I understand that, but I'm going by interviews that I had actually seen of her talking about X-Men Origins prior to release. The comments that she made about the film, and the changes that were made to the source material, and how the fans were gonna LOVE IT, just gave me the impression that there was a lot of studio involvement in these changes, and that whomever made these decisions were completely disconnected from the fans.

Now, please don't take this as I'm stating it as all fact, I could be wrong on some of this, but I remember something about Bryan Singer bein ticked off at how much the studio was trying to interfere with the first two X-Men, which was part of the reason why he left to make Superman. (I may be completely off base with that one, its been a minute or two and I've drank since then :P) sooooooo they brought in Brett Ratner... good frickin choice fox... hate that dude. X-Men 3 sucked, Gavid Hood sucked ass with Origins, but as soon as they brought back in talent, who would have a vision of where to go, a.k.a Matthew Vaugh and now bringing Bryan Singer back for DoFP, they are starting to kick ass again.

I dunno, just felt like Brett Ratner and Gavin Hood were brought in so Fox could tell them what to do and micromanage the crap out of those movies, as they have done with soooooooooooooo many in the past. But, then again, as I said, I could be completely wrong.

In fairness to Fox, that was the old regime. Fox has an AWESOME track record the past 2-3 years and they're turning it around.

I'm an old fart so I dunno much about current peeps in the FOXHOLE. I truly hope you are correct b/c they've really RIPPED some films apart in the past with their meddling...

But then again... if this movie turns out as unbelievably awful as so many ppl are predicting it will be (I hope it don't, but that hope is fading) then my faith in FOX may hit a new low.
