That price will be tough to pass up regardless of the bonus extras, which are nice IMO but something I watch most times only once, so not being on disc isn't a deal breaker, but it will depend on what better exclusives other stores might offer. So for now anyway, amazon won't have any pre orders for Captain America 2 3D. |

Avengers final 40 minutes had strong 3D going on and was impressive. The dialog shots though, were mostly mild 3D in comparison. |

I also thought Thor 2's 3D was pretty bad, so I'm glad to hear that Cap 2 is a step up. Getting mine tomorrrow!

[Show spoiler] . But for the overwhelming majority of the film it is a 3d conversion that brings nothing to the table. Very few shoots are framed with 3d in mind (if any, so few are framed for 3d it could just be luck).Add to that the shaky camera and it is a film that simply doesn't suit 3d. It clearly wasn't intended by the film makers, just like Thor 2. I recommend sticking with the 2d release unless you can get the 3d release at no premium. It is really the kind of 3d that I fell is turning people of 3d. Tacked on an unnecessary only present for China and to charge a price premium. In fact all of Marvels films (aside from Avengers and GOTG) are not worth seeing in 3d. The first Captain America was also apparently shoot for 3d but the results if I recall correctly where subpar. Thor 1 and 2's use of 3d was subpar as was Iron Man 3's. Last edited by Suntory_Times; 08-18-2014 at 12:18 PM. |

That aside, Captain America 2 the actual movie is fantastic. It renewed my faith in Marvel after the awful start Phase 2 got off to. |

Ive watched this in 3D twice already at home and the 3D is quite good. I find it to be better than Thor 1 and about on par with Thor 2, but none imo are as good as Cap 1 which i thought was alot better than most conversions. Most of the darker scenes maintained good depth throughout, id love to see one of these Marvel movies with a Titanic-level conversion.

Definitely do not miss the STRONG 3D hybrid conversion of Guardians of the Galaxy. The strongest 3D in a Marvel movie so far. ![]() |

To add further thoughts. I think one reason why I loathed the 3d may not be the 3d in of itself (though it is less then spectacular for the most part). But the 3d disc has very poor skin tones (shoots of Captain before jumping out of the plane leave him with an entirely ultra sun burnt red face). Also the dreaded black crush is present on the 3d disc but absent for the 2d disc. I have no idea why this would have been done or if it is simply a transfer error. In any case it is dssapointing and the 3d really isn't worth it (the editing of action scenes minus perhaps the finale is also clearly made for 2d).

Just watched it and I've gotta agree, it's quite a bland conversion. Like a lot of recent conversions I've seen it's not bad in a purely technical sense, but they simply don't want to push the 3D too far. (Didn't see any fubar skin tones though, the colour looked fine to me.)
I don't think it's a case of 'shooting for 3D' in 2D space, because something like Titanic was never, ever shot with stereo in mind and yet look at that conversion, it's astonishingly good IMO. Why? Because they took the proper amount of time to do it, some 18 months IIRC. But all theatrical conversions have a much more limited time frame to do the same sort of job, so it's no wonder they're more like 2.5D. Yes, the occasional gem does creep through (Cap 1, Avengers, Wolverine) but that seems to be more by luck than judgement. |

To those having issues with skin tones on the 3D version; if you can, try switching your TV into 2D mode while playing the 3D version and see if the problem's still there? I've noticed that my TV at least pushes reds too much whenever it's in 3D mode.

Funny you should say that, because my TV's out-of-the-box greyscale in 3D mode was waaaaay off, with - you've guessed it! - far too much red. 3D is quite tricky to calibrate with a colorimeter so I've done it by eye using my 2D calibrated picture as a reference, both on test patterns and real world content.
Winter Soldier 3D looks excellent in terms of general PQ, it's the 3D that's the letdown. |
