Finally, new research is in collaborating with that of NHK (from 2007) that 60 pixels per degree (ppd) is too conservative to use as a reference for display technology -

For 4K naysayers, file this under ‘How many pixels is enough’ in your cerebral cortices and for the gist of it, people just need to read the very last paragraph/conclusion at the end….

Minnesota's carry law is clearly written, but not always enforced correctly. Buildings that are owned by the public like city hall, the Capital building, libraries, etc cannot ban citizens from carrying firearms, openly or concealed. The only public places that you cannot carry a gun in would be courthouses and prisons. The Guthrie is owned by the city of Minneapolis so they cannot prevent you from carrying there.

Malls cannot ban carry in a carte blanche fashion, but the MOA likes to think that they can based on their signs. Only individual stores can ban people, not the entire mall.

Sports stadiums that are owned by the public cannot ban guns, but the places renting them can, and do.

Most stores do not have any signs banning carry whatsoever, but any private business can ask you to leave if they do not want you carrying there, sign or no sign. If you do not comply they can call the police. If the police ask you to leave and you do not, then you will be arrested.

Long story short, I carry a pistol with me when I am out and about everywhere save for stadiums, and my workplace. For comfort reasons I carry a small pistol that is in a holster and in my pocket. Heavier pistols require a dedicated belt which I don't want to deal with. I will occasionally carry openly, but in my experience nobody cares because if you act normally, people are not bothered. Overall, it is a "don't ask, don't tell" policy for the most part as even if I am in an establishment with a no guns sign, I am not in violation of the law unless I refuse to leave if asked. I have never been asked to leave when openly carrying my pistol (although I have seldomly done so) but if I was asked, I would kindly leave. We Minnesota folk are a polite bunch.

These types of laws generate a lot of controversy, but after people realize that the sky hasn't fallen, nobody cares at it becomes the new normal. There were essentially no gun laws in the US until 1968, and open/concealed carry laws didn't come into play until the late 1970s due to lawmakers concerned about groups like the Black Panthers. The law in MN was relaxed to allow any citizen to carry a firearm in Minnesota as long as they passed a background check and completed a training course in 2003. Back then, people thought that people would get shot over petty arguments and blood would cover the streets, but that hasn't happened. People forget that during the carefree days of the 1950s the gun laws were more permissive than they are now. People got upset when gay marriage and medical marijuana became legal as well, but after the fuss is over people will stop caring about that, too. As a whole, Minnesotans are tolerant regarding differing beliefs which is one reason why I enjoy living here. It also helps that there is a strong outdoors spirit here. In addition to hiking, biking, skiing, etc, there are a lot of hunters and fishermen/women as well. I got my carry permit in 2010 after a lot of thinking, and while only 10% of citizens have such a permit, it is good that people can exercise this right if they so choose.

Penton: Based on your insider knowledge, I take it you live in Los Angeles or somewhere thereabouts? With the exception of non-rural CA and some holdout states in the East Coast like NY (New York City at least), NJ, and MA in addition to Hawaii the laws in MN are the law of the land across the US. I guess this isn't entirely on-topic so if you'd like to chat some more maybe it would be better via PM.
It sure aint like watching a play in thee olden days....

The Equalizer Official Trailer #1 (2014) - Denzel Washington Movie HD - YouTube
He has big boots to fill considering it was the fantastic Edward Woodward who played the role originally. Denzel is good, but in my opinion, he is nowhere near that level of quality. Like you say, I have had my eye on this one though, will give it every chance.

There once was an elite Sony rear projection TV which was a 70 incher and considered BIG screen (and cutting edge – HDMI in – 1080i, 720p, 480p, 480i) at the time. Including the matching stand (which locked the ~ 275 lb. behemoth TV in place and was really a worthwhile purchase especially for those owners living in earthquake country, like for instance this morning in Napa ), it retailed for $14,500. Chump change for some….a serious purchase for others. Add on California state tax and white glove delivery, the total came out to a tad over $15,700. (Price adjusted for inflation these days would bring the grand total to ~ $17,700….for some perspective)

Denzel had that TV delivered to his humble abode in the Hollywood environs back in February of 2005, if I recall correctly a couple days after Valentine’s Day to be precise. Anyway, he belonged to a club of elite early owners as the first batch of these displays came from the Far East only in Jan. of that same year.

Time flies, technology advances. TVs go on diets.

P.S.
Just back from our morning mountain bike ride, will now put the feet up and watch your team play Man United recorded earlier. I learned yesterday not to turn any match off too early. Go Arsenal

Ah, the Sony SXRD XBR series. I got my father and a buddy of mine to purchase them, both 60" models (KDS-R60XBR1) back in 2005...since I was living in a TINY apartment back then I could not get my own and had to "settle" for the Sony 34XBR960. Amazing TVs.

Now it continues with my new amazing 4K Sony XBR X900B!

I still own mine, and watch it every day. Bought it in 2003 for $8,000, including the stand. Sony started marketing it as the Qualia when they went to 1080p, mine is 1080i. Not much difference between them.

I've been through two bulbs. That's it, we're waiting to put in the third bulb, it's still sitting in the box. Absolutely wonderful set. It's our workhorse "what's on TV" set. We only use the Kuro for Blu-Ray.

I admired your guys’ hustle and quickly taking on opposing players throughout the match. Good result. Entertaining match to watch . I also learned a little history from the commentators that I had been previously clueless to as to where your boys used to play before the Stadium of Light and how in the olden days you used to kick ManU arse.

Blu-Dog, you cover a lot of territory for a four legged fellow without a motor vehicle as the last time I spotted you, you were betwixt the highly technical cutting-edge postings and the sexy Brit, Tanya unboxing video link over in this electronic neck of the woods... https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...=240537&page=9 where little known specific industry information was being revealed.

Anyway, to clarify for those not following and perhaps thinking the above post was contradictory to the discussion, I was referring to the Qualia in the post regarding Denzel’s specific TV purchase, as the ‘Q’ (actually now rather infamous) had no 1080p input via HDMI, as I previously indicated. Although, it could take the input signal and do 1080i -> 1080p with its onboard deinterlacer to provide a 1080p image to that very expensive screen.

You seem well balanced , like PeterTHX , but please just assure me you’re not one of those TV nutters like on some other consumer forums who spend much of their life online adoring/defending their TV or preferred TV technology (be it plasma, LCD or OLED) in talking point TV threads, all the while wearing this T-shirt….

As I find that type of *devotion* a bit scary . Tell me you do get out and enjoy other things in life like having lunch with a friend or spouse…

Nope, from Sony directly.

Besides, my TV obsession is a drop in the spit bucket compared to y'alls drooling obsession with soccer.

PS: what is it with this thread's formatting?

I had to open this page in Chrome (which I despise) to get it to quote properly. Neither Firefox nor Internet Explorer will let me quote other posts.

And it's just this thread. I can quote with the other browsers in all other threads on this site.

Really weird

Guilty as charged. Over the years two ACL tears, torn menisci, multiple concussions and broke nose, more than once. Latest thing, tibial plateau fracture.

Breaking Bad (as a 4K aside - http://www.digitalspy.com/tv/s166/br...oO4gdMRakHOigY ) took home 5 awards at last night’s Emmy shootout which also featured a unique way of spicing up what is typically the most boring speech (the chairman’s) during any Academy awards show.

File under... this
