Just as a head's up - toddlers are drawn to big TV screens like a moth to a porch light. I came around the corner just in time to see my dear nephew tracing his finger around my LCD TV screen while watching the rainbow swirl effect it left behind. I just about hit to the roof. My own son is well past that phase, so I hadn't had to worry about that stuff for a while.

Flat panels on walls aren't immune to it either, unless they're protected by a pretty big credenza or media console underneath them. For my 32" LCD TV, I placed it inside a media center with doors instead of wall hanging it. That helps keep dust off it, and I can secure the door shut when toddlers are raging through the house. My 50" SXRD rear projector is sitting exposed in the home theater room though. I'm in the process of trying to find or build a wall unit for it, and ideally it will have fold back doors as well.

Toddlers can take down a TV, speaker, or any other piece of gear in a matter of seconds. Back in the day my old boss lost his top-of-the-line JVC S-VHS player to a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. His daughter got impatient waiting for him to start her Barney tape.

It kind of served him right for having Barney in the house if you ask me.

I've lost a couple electronics to my son, had a 5 disk CD changer I had just finished writing an XP driver for, was still in the testing phases to make sure it worked, and bam, I come home from work and all the drives are out. Then I buy a 27" LCD monitor for the computer, and he used a screwdriver on it within 3 days of me buying it. The scratches are still on the screen if you look hard enough, got some compound for 20$ off e-bay and it got rid of around 90% of the gouges. Then my toshiba laptop lost it's keyboard, and has bright spots on the monitor from fabreeze. Ahhh, the joys of parenting! Too bad you can't actually punish them because everything is child abuse these days.

poor choice of words. Yesterday, a man stomped his 2 yr old to death. Face was so disfigured they couldn't even identify him. They had to use other methods.. & the 'father' was shot to death..

It's kind of ironic, when a kid is comming, some parents go great guns making the house perfect for the newboarn while forgetting the spills and pulling apart that is sure begin after the delivery. For me, the money spent on a soon to be trashed decor would be better off in a bank earning interest for the college fund. When they learn not to rip the place apart, that would be the time to get a new TV. So keep the clunker a few more years. Scratches on the boob-tube or a peanut-butter sandwich stuffed in the VCR is no big loss.

If you are worried the kid is going to trash it, best put off buying it for a later time. Honestly, I don't have clue what the house looked like when I was two months old or two years old for that matter.

2009
The place where I live, which is shared with friends from Perú; one of them had a baby. We went great guns buying all the latest stuff and getting the baby-room picture-perfect.

2010
I was supprised that the room did not get torn apart as much as I thought, but the infant was in a crib much of time time. The parents, however, found the space much too small for the baby and have since moved out to get there own apartment, and I got the paint the room again. Now it's the dog's turn.

The Delorean? They're pretty easily had at $15,000 or so.... hardly "Ferrari" priced...... some older Ferrari's can be had for $35K or so too.... but I digress......

My kid puked (some may say "spit-up" ) on my remote today

He's so cool, he just smiled at me, and all was forgiven

not just the dorlean, the actual car from the movie, not the exact one but a replica of the car....ive found plans and how to make the parts at bttfpart.com. I want to build one as a hobby....the right dorlean, DMC 12, in good condition is about 30,000 (yes, ive looked them up) and to build the damn car is 10,000s of thousands more.....one was on ebay built for 150,000...ferrari price
