Or, if one is more into watching and lensing (https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...+o#post9474610 ) movies rather than soccer, “You can have an actor play dialog walking from shadow into bright sun, and it won’t look overexposed” - http://www.theasc.com/asc_blog/paral...dri-with-emma/

Attention Social Media Reporters: The plan is for Emma to be screened using an HDR projector at the El Capitan Theatre in October in good ol’ Hollywood. The VFX is currently being worked on as we speak.

Reminds me, putting aside the whole Blu-ray vs. streaming debate for a moment (in particular, the impediments to final delivery into subscribers’ homes, collecting physical media, etc.) and in the spirit of learning something about the inner workings of the industry, esp. for 4K source format/codec followers.

Netflix receives Breaking Bad 4K files as a high quality (QC-ed master level) source format (cutely described by some involved as the ‘impossible missions force’) with JPEG 2000 as the codec used to encode the imagery to which they then generate HEVC transcodes from….to then deliver to their subscribers.

Another thing of note… a major studio providing a streaming retailer like Netflix master quality QC-ed source is a fairly recent development and shows the commitment to fine quality 4K of one content provider (Sony) in its willingness to let go of master quality QC-ed 4K source.

At least the article is mighty fine for its 2nd non-pixelated image.
The rest I don't care much to read.

Thanks for the article! Unfortunately it did not mention 4KBD at all.

Aye....it's just a shame that said studio-quality master is then pissed away down a broadband pipe. Or maybe I'm just bitter because I don't want to have to upgrade my internet speed to get this stuff in the first place.

Nah, it's 4K BD or bust for me.

I keep harping on this, but Comcast, and the other ISP's, are a 4KBD lovers best friend. Even with a 50 or 100+ megabit connection, how many 4K movies are you going to stream from Netflix or Amazon with a 300 GB/month usage cap?

One thing for sure, despite the quality or form of delivery, content owners rule….http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/new...p-2m-an-728889 (as an aside, The Blacklist being shot and finished in 4K).

And, More 4K UHD TVs shipped in Q2 2014 than in all 2013…

For those not following what the writer meant in the above ^ article, by “the Sony F5 4K hack”, he’s referring to this internal fiddling which has subsequently evoked quite a commotion over the internet at least among those in the pursuit of 4K capture -

Speaking of HDR, expect the first SMPTE standard in regards to EOTF to be published publicly (for all to see) in several days serving as a nice news prologue to the start of IBC 2014 in Amsterdam….which coincidentally, will have an HDR demo for attendees to check out (EBU booth: 10.F20).

Carolyn is a cutting edge reporter who has been in the business for a long time and many still remember her from years past from moderating panels on topics like when the digital intermediate process was in its infancy to interviewing Wally Pfister at CineGear under a tent on a hot summer’s day when he was far less well known to cinephiles than he is today.

At the end of the article, she even includes a comment in relation to Blu-ray and MPEG

Tie-in aside to the D.P. of the HDR-mastered Emma, namely Daryn O. who happens also to have been the DP on a new motion picture releasing nationwide next Friday (Dolphin Tale 2) , which boasts having had the cutting edge workflow of 16 bit OpenEXR hybrid ACES and Sony F55 16 bit raw.
