I highly question your assertion here. Many if not most comic book movies take liberties with the source material. Yes Marvel has done well sticking close to the books, but many film series from Batman to Man of Steel to X-Men and beyond have changed things to make them more cinematic and performed very well.

All I care about is a good film. If I wanted the comics exactly I would read the comics. That's my view. I'm not saying the changes are good or bad, I'm saying a good movie in the end is all that should matter.

Well, my opinion is that in most cases, staying close to the source material is the most crucial component for making a good comic-based movie. I understand some changes need to be made at times, but with this film, it seems most have been arbitrary. The points I already referenced, plus the rumors of a female Dr. Doom...the whole thing feels like a desperate attempt by Fox to keep the license away from Marvel and Disney, above all else.

I'll never understand these types of comments. Also if Disney's success is anything to go by straying from the source material is a good thing.

Marvel actually stays a lot closer to the source than you might think. Most of their "diversions" have been for the sake of modern storytelling, like having Tony's suits made of gold and titanium. Black Widow is largely similar to her comic counterpart, having been a Russian spy before Hawkeye recruited her for SHIELD. Captain America's story is very similar to the comics, with him being from the 1940s and frozen for 70 years. Bruce Banner's origin as the Hulk is much more in line with the 2008 film and "The Avengers", versus Ang Lee's 2003 effort that suggested genetic tampering by his own father.

My overall point is that most audiences will accept minor changes, but they'll reject major ones.

What's wrong with that kind of comment? I think it makes sense- if Fox let Disney get the rights back, and then Disney turns the Fantastic Four into yet another one of their smash hits and creates a new franchise in the process... someone at Fox would say, "Fantastic Four, wasn't that one of ours? Fire whoever let it go." Fox would rather try to cash in on one of the two comic book properties they have (all they've got is X-Men and FF) than let Disney/Marvel get the rights back and turn it into another smash success.

Just my two cents.

The unrelenting negativity in here has made me hope this movie does Avatar money and all of you are forced to deal with multiple sequels for the next decade.

I thought the original movies had to have been popular for them to justify doing a remake/reboot?

I'm sure that it's probably going to do less than the orignal two films did because people just weren't interested in the stories. Or the characters...

Aside from the X-Men franchise, Sony has done a terrible job with it's Marvel movies. The writing has been under par and have been CGI'd to death.

I'm almost 100% certain that this reboot will have about 95% CGI and 5% acting.

I'm just saying...

I hope it bombs miserably, so Fox has no choice but to give the rights back. Then, Marvel could turn it around into a Phase Four release, in time for the comics' 60th anniversary in 2021.

Even if we limit the scope of the question to people who go to super-hero movies do you really think most audience members could even tell a minor change from major one?

I would be willing to bet that relatively few super-hero movie viewers have more than a passing knowledge of the comics themselves.

Many of these characters have become so much a part of the public consciousness, that even folks who've never read a comic book know who they are. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, Hulk, etc...they've all gone beyond the page by leaps and bounds. The Fantastic Four were the "first family" of modern comics; I got my own education about them through coloring books and cartoons as a kid.

I disagree they could easily make it look like that. Dr. Doom's costume is awesome, there is no way to outdo it.

This new costume looks hideous.

I got the sarcasm, but if Marvel Studios were making this movie I feel confident in guessing that Dr. Doom would look the way he's supposed to.

It's got to be, as here it looks like a guy with a hockey mask with gold spray paint and a bunch of plastic trash bags.

PS: or it's a joke/ red herring from the producers and the film won't even have Doom in it at all
