Lyris the point i'm making is that region free players could become so rare that they'll become very valuable like certain dvdd like Fright Night 2 or something. |

It breaks, you buy a new one. They're not going to stop making Blu-ray Disc players in any of the 3 regions for a long time. Steve W |

Personally, my collection would be less-than-half the size if I'd relied only on RB discs and - like yourself - I'd be massively frustrated about the films I was missing out on (unless I was illegally downloading them, I guess ![]() If you've got a friend visiting the US, easiest thing is to have them buy a player and bring it back. You can get cheap, lightweight ones that aren't much bigger than a freeview box now. But I can tell I'm wasting my breath. You seem to have a mental block about it. Like I said, your loss: Though if you've made that choice, I'd suggest there's not much point complaining long and loud about what you're missing. That's probably why this discussion happens so regularly. Maybe that's the kind of attention you want. |

I bought a region-free player a while ago. It was kind of pointless. The UK really does have some of the best blu-ray labels in the world, and, after buying a couple of Criterions, I went back to buying UK releases. Most of them will get released here eventually anyway.
I'm probably the only person that would tell theprestige85 not to go multi-region. It's all personal preference, I guess. I say this, but I did just order the US tora-san and Musashi Miyamoto (the Tomu Uchida version) dvd boxsets, which is probably the sweetest thing since I realised that the Platypus was a real animal. |

Going Region Free, one way or an other (accessing Region A in Europe or Region B in the US), has always looked interesting to me.
Many region-locked releases are still exclusive and I believe everyone can easily find 15 or 20 region locked titles looking very interesting. Today, despite living in France, the biggest studio in my collection is Criterion (15.8%). BFI + Arrow + Eureka amounts to 18.4%. In both cases, plenty of titles are released, within these 4 labels, in their best releases as Region locked releases. On the other end, this is also a door opened to more accessible titles, and thus a even more bigger budget. ![]() |

I do have a mental block about going region free and TomN245 has more or less pinpointed why. And by the way, I am as tired of talking about the region free arguments as the rest of you, I didn't even bring it up on here in the first place, all I did was compliment Criterion on their selection and quality of the blu rays and then somebody else recommended that I went region free not knowing that I have had this discussion with various members on here already. I'm certainly not wanting to discuss it 'for attention', i'd have rather just talked about BFI titles that I recently purchased like The Innocents . I know it seems odd and illogical on paper to not want to be region free, but I have already explained my reasonings. I don't need to be told how wrong I am. |

The way I see it, Id be more annoyed about being Region A only than Region B only. The only Region A locked release Im bothered about is Escape From New York really. Got far too much to watch as it is and loads that I want to see it again. I dont need more choices! |

its easy to understand that UK people prefer to buy everything within the UK. (customs alone are more troublesome with that 8 GBP fee). and the UK got some pretty awesome labels, at the moment the UK beats the US if you are into "classic" and "cult" movies. but if someone really is into special features and quality releases there is no way around Criterion. but going region free is so simple (and cheap) these days.. no reason to limit yourself to one region really.. |
