It seems like Amazon Prime has the first two seasons in 16:9.

Hmm, a shot like that isn't really going to be problematic with the heavy cropping, but I'm worried about how it'll look in mid shots and close ups.

Yeah but that's amazon prime. The announcement specifically said the show has been remastered since then in HD, which would ignore those dodgy looking upscales on amazon. I hope they don't show a 16:9 version. It's HBO and I suspect that they won't.

I've always said that the only shows I would care about on blu ray Buffy, Angel and The Wire. I already have Generation Kill which I consider to be the unofficial 6th season of The Wire. Just those on blu ray and then i'll be satisfied.

I saw that promo on HBO last week. I saw it airing on one of the HBO stations, not just online. So I took it to be real. But now I'm wondering if someone jumped the gun, as there is nothing on the HBO web page about it, nothing on their page for The Wire, and the show is NOT on the schedule for September 4th as the promo indicated.

I sent an e-mail to HBO asking for clarification.

I can't see somebody 'jumping the gun' on such a promo. I was on another site where somebody pointed to the schedule which had it confirmed. I'll try and find it. Unless they've taken it down already???

In doing a search, I saw a few posts saying it was confirmed on the schedule too. Yet, I don't see it. Not on the HBO site when I view their schedule online or when I view my on screen guide through my cable TV provider.

I just bought seasons 2 and 4 on dvd, which means I now have the complete set.

I have to say, I'll be terribly vexed if they announce a $200 blu-ray set next month.

I'm being selfish on this one guys.

It's possible they just haven't updated the schedule yet.

The gods will not save you.” That’s the opening line of a new promo for a plan to rebroadcast The Wire that promises “every episode, every season, remastered for the first time in high definition.” The promo says the episodes air weeknights 8pm starting September 4. If you check TV listings online, you’ll find other programs filling those timeslots—while About Time is a fine movie, it is not The Wire remastered in HD.
However, the Wire page at TV Guide has listings starting September 8 with season 1 episode 3, which would accommodate the first two episodes airing on September 4-5. I can’t guarantee these remastered episodes will start airing this week, but it sure sounds like they exist, and that’s a major step for those of you hoping for an eventual Blu-ray release.
