Both uncut mate and pretty decent transfers for what they are

I can confirm they are uncut (atleast comparing them to the versions that played on Elvira's Movie Macabre during the 80s)

I don't know what perspective you take on PQ but for cheap exploitation films shot on film scrap it looks pretty good. I never had the DVDs so I cannot compare them to this

Has anyone had a chance to post any screen captures? I have the Japanese blu-rays and can confirm that they not only look fantastic, but they have all of the Criterion dvd extras (including the commentaries). There is a bit of blurring on the genitals, but it is very minor and only delegated to the men (and over the literal shape of their peni).

I have both of the Japanese blus, but I have to get a blu-ray player before I can post some caps of my own.

I have Australian Blood For Dracula ordered, and couldn't find any screenshots either
but Jap 1080p should be much better
review i read said, neither of the Aus releases appear to be restored as there is still debris on print, and motion blurring,
apparantley BFD is slighty better than FFF which also suffers from occasional pops in audio
they also have same Commentaries and extras as previous Criterion DVD and Laserdisc
after reading your comments on Jap release I will prob end up picking this version up aswell for 1080p as Aus is only 1080i

Longtime lurker here in acute need of advice:

Out of the Australian DVD, Australian Blu-ray and Tartan DVD of BLOOD FOR DRACULA, which edition would people recommend? The Aussie Blu is easier to find and available for cheaper than the Tartan, but the screen caps I've seen would seem to point to the latter as a better option. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Received my Blood for Dracula disc yesterday.

1080i60. I knew it was 1080i, but I'd assuming/hoping 1080i50 like many of Shocks other titles. I'd rather have 4% speed-up that constant pulldown judder.

The transfer itself is pretty good, though the usual basic Shock compression. The first time I've seen the film though.... bonkers! I didn't know whether to think it was awful or not at first, then as I got closer to the end I began realising how clever and thought-provoking it was. It's a piece of moving kitsch art with something to say rather than a traditional movie I found.

I'm picking up Flesh for Frankenstein now. 1080i60? I suppose I'll have to put up with that. I hope someone does a 3D restoration someday.

Ybuike - I think the Blu-ray is the best option. I looked at a DVD Beaver comparison and the Tartan DVD despite being anamorphic looked poorer than the old non-anamorphic Criterion. The Japanese Blu-ray seems to be the edition of choice at the moment if you don't mind paying a premium.

I think the Tartan DVD release looks the best by far. The old Australian DVD looked blurred and the colour on the old Criterion looks all wrong (Dracula should be pale!), aside from not being 16X9 enhanced. I've owned the Tartan for a while and am keeping it over the BD. I've just about had it with these subpar local Blu-rays and refuse to spend a cent on something that ain't the real thing.

The dvd recording I have from C4 of FFF is in that inferior anaglyph format so a proper 3D version would be great.

Not the discs, no. Flesh For Frankenstein was released in 3D at cinemas back in the day, but I don't think Blood For Dracula was. I'm no spring chicken though, so my memory could be serving me incorrectly regarding the latter.

You are correct: Frankenstein was made in 3D and Dracula wasn't.

That isn't the case, sadly. Flesh for Frankenstein must surely be an upscale from a standards converted SD master because it's just so soft and juddery with double imaging. Sometimes when shots change, both shots appear merged together for a frame.

A really, really bad Blu-ray. It's no joke when I say a good DVD is far, far better than this. I hope someone remasters it properly for HD and 3D someday.

Picked both of these up yesterday - $8 each with the 2 for 20 + 20% off..... here's my take...

BLOOD FOR DRACULA..... 1.78... sure there are flecks, specks, cracks and whatever thru the credits (and a few scenes), but given that there is no restoration, the image is quite clear, no smudges.

FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN ............2.35 ...... same with the no restoration, but the image for this is overblown in the colours ! It's almost chalk and cheese between Blood and Flesh - where Blood is the better presentation. It's not to say that Flesh isn't watchable - it just needs a decent restoration - and a 3D version would be perfect !! Agree that it's very soft : there's no detail in any of the faces - one hopes that this can be fixed given that it was filmed using 35mm (plus a decent cinematographer !!!!)

However - given the price - and that neither have been picked up in the UK or US, the presentation is OK ... just hope that Criterion gets around to remastering them ... however I wouldn't hold my breathe on that !!

I also hope Flesh gets a good 3D release, I remember seeing it in 3D in the theater and was totally blown away.
