Default Netflix to end Queues!

I just got notice from Netflix that they are ending separate Queues in Sept!

This means I have to have 1 queue between me, my wife and kids. I'm not happy at all. Any other service offer separate Queues? I plan to call in and complain.

Here is the email content

News Regarding Netflix Profiles

Dear XXX,

We wanted to let you know we will be eliminating Profiles, the feature that allowed you to set up separate DVD Queues under one account, effective September 1, 2008.

Each additional Profile Queue will be unavailable after September 1, 2008. Before then, we recommend you consolidate any of your Profile Queues to your main account Queue or print them out.

While it may be disappointing to see Profiles go away, this change will help us continue to improve the Netflix website for all our customers.

If you have any questions, please go to http://www.netflix.com/Help?p_faqid=3962 or call us anytime at 1 (888) 638-3549. We apologize for any inconvenience.

- The Netflix Team

I got that too today and am dissapointed. I use the separate queues to keep a variety of discs out at a time. Like I have a queue just for movies and another one for TV shows. That way when I return a movie I get another movie back. It has worked well and I will certainly miss the feature. Not enough to call and complain, but I do like the convience of the separate queues.

The worst part is the complete lack of any way to convert all the ratings/queue over to a new one. At very least something like that should be offered (some people's other queues have hundreds or thousands of ratings).

Absolutely mind boggling decision by netflix. I'm a huge netflix fan, but this is patently ridiculous. Whatever upper management nutbar was responsible for this needs to have his position re-evaluated.

I've never used the queues, but now that you've given me that idea, I wish they were keeping them. That's a GREAT way to manage content!

Where do I sign on to the petition?

Actually, Netflix started declining when they changed their "new releases" updates. It used to be there was one page that showed ALL the new week releases, organized by type, and they stopped that and started showing selective releases as an "improvement".

Then they announced the raise in price for BD, now they eliminate queues... let's face it, all of these are cost cutting measures and are not designed to add any value at all to the service. It does not bode well for the future of Netflix (my hunch -- they will be pushing big time for downloads instead of physical rentals. Expect to see major price increases for the physical discs over the next year or so in order to accommodate this).

There is still a hidden page that was added back because of all the requests -- there is no active link to it, so if you don't know the url you'd have a hard time finding it.

I'll post the link when I get home tonight if I remember.

What annoyed me was when they changed their RSS feed order. It Used to be the major studios were ordered at the top and the lesser studios and fitness wrestling movies that nobody cares about at the bottom -- so you could feasibly look at the top 10-20 movies and know what worthy titles were coming out. Now it's ordered by genre (with no real way of telling what movie is what genre if you don't recognize any titles in the RSS feed), and it made it nearly useless as far as finding out what new titles are coming that week.

Separate queues sound great. I wish either of the Canadian onlline rental services had them.

I'd suggest complaining about their removal for sure. If enough people do, it's very possible they won't remove them.

Ok,

So I called netflix and asked them to consider keeping the separate queues. Apparently they have received many calls so please call them if you want them to keep the queues!

Here is the number if you want to give them feedback.

1 (888) 638-3549.

So, queues are not really being eliminated, right? You'' be abler to only have one queue though.
