IMO I don't see much difference in 4K vs. Blu's especially on the display I have so I won't be getting any 4K films.

Then you're either not sitting close enough or your display is not large enough. There's a reason why theater screens, which are 4K, are so large.

The jump from 2K to 4K is not big enough for me so I'll keep buying standard BD, thank you very much.

I feel this way. When and if I buy a new TV, it's not going to be much bigger than my current 46", and I'll be sitting about four or five feet away. A well-produced blu-ray looks incredible on my set up (watched TT's The Man From Laramie recently -- remarkable), and I can't escape the feeling that any improvements will be barely perceptible.

If blu-ray still qualifies as "niche", then 4K is going to need to spend a lot of time as a "niche within a niche". And as that time passes, technology will continue to develop, increasing the likelihood that 4K will give way to yet another format.

I mean, if it's hard to generate excitement about 4K here, then imagine how difficult it'll be to sell to John Q. Public, who could scarcely be bothered to sniff dismissively at home 3-D, which is appreciably different from standard blu-ray.

And to 3D(just my opinion). I'm very happy with blu on my Kuro 720p. No one's ever wondered if it's 1080p or not, so 4K is not even on my radar. Also happy to have hundreds of movies at my fingertips looking and sounding better in my living room than I ever thought would be possible. Although I did see my first OLED display a few days ago.....Damn! And atmos might be fun... So I'm open to real improvements, but I have no need jump on every bandwagon just for the sake of change.

I've had a 4K TV for well over a year so I'm gagging for 4K Blu-ray and I'm pleased as punch that it's finally on the way.

That said, most new movies are still not finished at 4K so day-and-date 4K BD releases alongside the regular 3D and 2D BD's might be quite hard to come by, unless the studios start releasing upscaled material right off the bat (which isn't unheard of, as several of the titles in Samsung's 4K pack are upconverts).

My point being, I'm not holding off from anything. I've bought most of the 4K-mastered back catalogue Blu-ray releases that I like already, and new movies will be fair game after Q4 2015 anyway.

Bollocks to Atmos though. I've only just upgraded to 7.1, so adding in several more speakers and changing my amp just for Atmos isn't likely - although when I next upgrade to get a HDCP 2.2 compliant amp, I'll probably make sure it's got Atmos, just in case like...

i would definitely buy a 4k tv.

but 4k blurays? lol no... blurays only hold 50GB. most movies are already 30.

i mean if there is a noticeable difference like color changes...less dnr or EE then i would rebuy that movie.

It's already been established that the BDA is looking at 4K discs being 66 and 100 GBs.

Yet, movies that are finished in 2K can't be shown in 4K.

That's my point. The studios may try to pull something by putting a 2K DI on a 4K disc when the format arrives. That's why I mentioned the lists.

Well, considering that there are good number of films/shows that haven't made their way to DVD let alone blu ray, I can't see myself investing in 4K anytime soon. Only major studio titles and a few classics will make their way to the format.

Well whoever wants a 40ft. movie screen in their living room is welcome to it. I'm satisfied with regular Blu ray. No 4K for me. Enough is enough.

40 ft. is certainly an exaggeration. An 80" display is plenty big enough if you're sitting 5-7' away.

Isn't 4k overkill for a small size screen like 80"? I have a 60" plasma and blu ray looks pretty stunning at that size sitting 6 ft away. 4k seems to be aimed at those fans who build huge theaters in their homes. I don't think whatever upgrade is noticed on a 60-100" screen is worth it. At least not to me. I love some of the fantastic home theaters members here have designed and built. I'm sure 4k would suit an actual movie theatre size screen....but at home where space is limited? I don't think 4k is going to go anywhere. It's been difficult enough trying to convince people that Blu ray was vastly superiors to DVD.

4k will have to be around for a long while before any of is will see any studio output.

4K will be helpful for large screen displays, but not a big improvement (if at all) for screens 60" and smaller. As to whether 4K is like 35mm, the answer is not necessarily. Film and digital are two different things. An imperfect example is a vinyl record could sound better than a CD depending on how it is mastered. It all depends on the source. For some movies, the upgrade to 4K will not be an improvement. For others it will make a big difference.

Atmos is extremely awesome. I love it. However, I doubt I will ever install thirty speakers in my home theater, absent winning the lottery, and even then I doubt it.

I love these things, and I am very glad 4K is getting a physical media device, but I will only purchase the films in 4K when I have the equipment and space to get the use out of it.

IMHO it's not. I plan to purchase a 4K display around 80", but I have to wait and see how much they will be in next year or two.

I'm not going to let 4K stand in the way of buying blu rays right now. 4K TV sets need to really drop in price before I consider buying one. Could be a couple years before that point. Although if 4K hits and it's truly "the man" then my plans might move forward faster.

I'm all over a 3D 4K projector at some point. Perhaps five years down the road or so. God willing.
