Lucky your store got it in. Most of the stores in Michigan didn't get any copies in.

I ended up coming home and ordering the exclusive off the Target website instead.

I think the the 3D version is brighter. With the 3D glasses on my 136", it seems about the same brightness as the 2D without.

the soundmix is simply outstanding - from the rumbles, the crashes, Alexandre Desplat's great music - the 7.1 mix is home theater demo worthy.

I've never seen the 98 movie, but that was a conscious choice. Looked horrible.

Wrong. Zilla is the official name of the creature that appears in Final Wars. Godzilla is the official name for the '98 monster.

thanks, but i was curious how good the actual 3D was... sometimes it's hardly worth the extra money (i.e. "The Amazing Spiderman")

I'm a bad one to ask that question. I like most 3D, I just wish I had a passive system.

FWIW, I was amazed at 3D is TASM 2, but TASM 1 3D was lame. Godzilla is somewhere in the middle.

TASM 1 vs TASM 2 is an excellent example of native/post-converted 3D not making a difference.

Wrong. You might want to brush up on your Godzilla history.

http://godzilla.wikia.com/wiki/Zilla

Quote:
Zilla is Toho Studio's official name for the titular creature of the 1998 film.[6][5][7][8][4][9][10] Toho renamed the character around 2004 after TriStar's rights to the franchise expired. Shogo Tomiyama and Ryuhei Kitamura saw that the 1998 creature as a whole was owned by Toho under Toho's contract with Sony, and Sony only owned the film and the animated series, so they included Zilla in Godzilla: Final Wars and changed its name from "Godzilla" to "Zilla", saying that TriStar "took the 'God' out of 'Godzilla',"[11] and to "prove which Godzilla was stronger."[12] Additionally, "Zilla" was the name of some imitation Godzilla products on the American market, and Shogo Tomiyama thought that that the "American Godzilla" was a representation of these imitation products and therefore he renamed the monster.[13]

Saw the Rifftrax Live version of the '98 movie. The former MST3K guys actually made the movie watchable!

This is a commonly accepted myth. This article is not accurate... And I don't think my Godzilla history needs to be brushed up.

Toho never made any sort of official change of the 1998 character name, contrary to popular belief. Sony now owns all the rights of the film and character, and the character and film are still trademarked as "Godzilla" and it will remain that way forever.

Keith Aiken (kpa) could probably shed more light on this subject than I could, having worked with Sony and Toho directly. I believe he has gone on record saying that the '98 character is still named Godzilla.

And I just received a notification from amazon that UPS tried to deliver the package and was unable to leave the package unattended. It says it was attempted at 5pm which is BS, because both my wife and I were home at that time. And even if it was at a different time my wife was home with my son all day today. She didn't go out today waiting on the package because we were going to make it a movie night tonight! Damn UPS!

The creature that appears in Final Wars IS the '98 American Godzilla, known as Zilla in Japan.

They are two separate characters. The Zilla in Final Wars has no canonical connection to the creature in the 1998 film. Obviously, it is supposed to represent that character for the metaphor that lies in the Godzilla vs. Zilla fight.

I found one of the quotes from Keith. Enjoy:

Anyway, appologies for breaking up the discussion of this thread.
