I found one of the quotes from Keith. Enjoy:

[Show spoiler]
But it IS the same creature, they even make a reference to it wth the dialogue "I knew that tuna eating monster was useless" — Zilla ate tuna in the 1998 film.

Eh, this is a weird case. Toho did rename the 1998 Godzilla Zilla when Final Wars came out, but the 98 film is still marketed as Godzilla and not Zilla. Also, in Final Wars, Zilla is not explicitly referred to by name. On the back of the DVDs and Blurays, the logo for the monster states it as Zilla. It's not even clear if the creature in Final Wars is the offspring that hatched into the end credits of the 98 film or if the 1998 film is actually in Final Wars continuity. Of course, the Millennium continuity is screwed up enough as it is.

In any case, Zilla is only Zilla in the Final Wars movie and the IDW comic book series. But in the 1998 film Zilla IS the filmmaker's own version of Godzilla.

My copy of the '98 movie still says Godzilla. And they still call him Godzilla.

Even the Rifftrax Live!: Godzilla from this year was called and marketed as Godzilla.

And the Rifftrax crew had to license the rights from Sony... not Toho.

So I don't really care what people who weren't involved with the film decided to call him.

I can call Godzilla "Princess Buttercup" if I want... doesn't change what the film is about.

Default Godzilla (2014) 2D/3D - Amazon Pre-orders

Really debating on keeping this or not.

I saw it in theaters and thought it was okay, not in the top 5 or anything, I dunno, not much better the second time.

Just kind of feels under developed. Like they tried to cram to much in without fleshing it out.

I wish the would have continued the Cranston storyline and that was Godzilla. I didn't care about any of the other characters.

No clue. The person I spoke to today said they had none on order...

And the best bet was to just go home and order it online. Sorry.

Just finished watching for the second time and I enjoyed it more then the first time. Maybe I'm just more comfortable at home but the pacing didn't bother me and thought it had just enough of the big G

Couldn't be any more ridiculous than Godzilla vs. Barkley.

Where apparently Godzilla got bit by a radioactive spider and now shoots webs instead of fire.

Though I think Mothra would more likely be the Princess of Buttercups.

I won't be watching the disc until at least this weekend, but I saw it in theaters twice and it is easily one of the best movie of the year, if not the best. It feels like a Godzilla movie.

It felt like a "Bunch Of Humans" movie with cameo appearances by Godzilla to me.

Is this like the most non-hostile Godzilla against humans ever even when some of them opened fire on him? He came only to fight the other creatures then he left.

Isn't that what a good chunk of the old Toho Godzilla movies are to begin with?

I was hoping there would a little bit more action, but I had to remind myself that this was not Pacific Rim. Still, the acting is sound with a mediocre script. It may not live up to Gojira, but it's darn close. 7/10.

They're also a lot shorter.. and don't repeatedly C-Tease Godzilla.

The whole show a few moments of some awesome scene and then cut away nonsense.

And then for the massive fight they have been building to by cutting away...

We get both excessive darkness and layers of smoke hiding it all.

You don't watch many Godzilla movies, do you?

In Godzilla vs Megalon, Godzilla shows up at 1 hour and 4 minutes in the movie. It is an hour and 21 minutes long.

In Final Wars, Godzilla shows up at the hour and 7 minute mark, the movie is 2 hours long.

In the original, Godzilla is on screen for about 16 minutes of its 97 minute run time.

The question is not how many times he shows up. The problem for me is the cutaways when Godzilla and the MUTO battle in Hawaii. Not even 30 seconds of that battle. Then later, we see the military trying to stop the female MUTO only in little bits and pieces on a simulated broadcast.

In Godzilla 2000, Godzilla shows up on the screen in 3 separate segments totaling around 45 minutes.

I noticed that the 1998 version was shown in a two night special showing over the summer. It was billed as a comedy. I don't think that it was intended as a comedy.

That does show what the 1998 movie has come down to. Being made fun of.
