I like it for what it is. it's not a Godzilla movie, but it's a fun "monster" movie IMO

I've been a huge Godzilla fan for many many years, and along with some others that are saying this, I also felt that it was better the second time. The first time in theater I didn't hate it per se but lik many others I felt that Godzilla was given far too little screen time, the family plot did nothing for me at all and the build ups were unnecessary, it had already built up enough to the Hawaii scene, they should have let it ride! Now I still feel the same about these points but to a lesser extent. Its still a great movie, probably my favorite so far this year, the creature design fo Gojira and the MUTOs are excellent and I liked the military angle the film took. But with the sequel I do hope they make up for the weaker elements of this one. But still very enjoyable and certainly a worthy heir to the Godzilla name.

Eh, RiffTrax usually make fun of any movie, good or bad.

Just a heads-up folks. I picked the standard SKU from Wal-Mart at lunch today, open the package up at home earlier this evening, and there were two DVDs. Not one BD and one DVD, but two DVDs. This is a very easy mistake IMHO as the discs look identical sans a small DVD or BD logo. I took it back and exchanged it, which took 5 minutes.

No issues at a Wal*Mart?

I'm more amazed that it took only five minutes. Their customer service lines are usually longer than the checkout lines.

Just finished watching it. A bit too long, but I rather enjoyed it. Felt as realistic as a Godzilla movie could, in a good way!

I completely agree but I've come to realize that with "only" a $150 million budget I can understand what they were trying to do in focusing all that money on making the few scenes with Godzilla look fan-freakin-tastic. I know that might sound weird but in an age where most blockbusters cost twice that much I can forgive the lack of screen-time. I'm sure they've learned their lesson though and will give us much more Godzilla action in the next one. It was still head-and-shoulders above Pacific Rim which was my biggest disappointment of last year. So that goes to show you that more doesn't always equal better anyway.

In Godzilla 2000, Godzilla shows up on the screen in 3 separate segments totaling around 45 minutes.
And this new Godzilla movie it shows up 11 minutes total in this 2 hour long movie.

Yes, I do. And all of them still don't C-Tease the hell out of Godzilla with lame cutaways.

In Godzilla vs Megalon, Godzilla shows up at 1 hour and 4 minutes in the movie. It is an hour and 21 minutes long.
Not really fair... given that that film was meant to launch a Jet Jaguar franchise.

Hence why he's the major focus of the film and Godzilla is just a team-up.

In Final Wars, Godzilla shows up at the hour and 7 minute mark, the movie is 2 hours long.

In the original, Godzilla is on screen for about 16 minutes of its 97 minute run time.
And still he's more of a central character of the film and again, those films are much shorter.

Just like the original films are made fun of.. and so is the new one.

Maybe you missed MST3K's episodes of Godzilla vs. Megalon and Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster.

Just finished watching it. I though the 3D ranged from okay to very good. The good thing is that it is consistent and there is always a degree of depth, even in the darkest scenes. I also though it was a good conversion. Not great like Titanic but still good enough. I like 3D as long as it is decent and I though this one was good. I would say that as long as the 3D display being used is decent in black levels and contrast (and has been calibrated) there should be no problem with many of the film's scenes which only seem to have different levels of black. With my projector all of these looked fine. Also, the black levels are kept dark enough that they do not look gray even with the adjusted brightness to compensate for the added murkiness of the 3D. I do however, keep a 3D calibration in a separate memory location than the one for regular 2D. I read another review where the user said that the black levels in his display did look gray in some parts, so it might depend on the calibration being used. I would say that if the display has a separate calibration for 3D it should be fine.

I'm going to have to mess with my picture settings. I've never seen this much crosstalk in a 3D movie before. The good news is that the 3D adds a good deal of depth and spectacle without going overboard.

Has there been any official confirmation that the extended cut will even be released? I thought the movie was long enough as is, but I'll hold out for an EE if it means more bonus features - the offerings on this release seem thin, Target or otherwise.

somebody made a topic about EE in imdb with no confirmation yet but others said since they just announced it or whatever.

Take it with a grain of salt. But yes, rumor has it and extended cut is going to be released in the future.

What's there to extend?

They need to cut the concerned wife footage in half and add more monster footage.
