Near Dark really needs a proper Blu-ray release. The current release is filtered within an inch of it's life.

With that said, I do have to give H20 a rewatch since it's been years since i've last seen it and it's the only installment of the series I don't have a copy of to date. The copy included in the box set will be the first time i've ever owned it (same goes for Curse of Michael Myers, though that was more so due to me buying a five disc Producer's Cut bootleg set as opposed to the official Dimension DVD release as well as it being included in one of those mutli-movie Echo Bridge DVD sets I own for some reason too). |

Near Dark is the best contemporary vampire film ever made IMO. Absolutely deserving of a reappraisal.

...or StudioCanal lost the US rights to the film. I could be wrong, but I think we'd have heard something if the StudioCanal / Lionsgate distribution deal had ended or was about to end.

You are right. If Lionsgate no longer has Near Dark it means that SudioCanal lost the US rights. That unholy alliance between Lionsgate and StudioCanal is still alive.

Yikes! I need to put an end to this rumor, that was me on facebook and was just asking because when I looked here and at amazon it only has Near Dark for sale through third party vendors for higher prices (but not super high) and I had previously heard somewhere that it was OOP. But when I looked it up on Film Aficionado it didnt say Out Of Print beside it, so for all I know it could very well still be owned by them.
One thing that is certain is that it desperately needs a new blu ray release. |

I'm still going to remain hopeful that Lionsgate loses the rights to this one at some point in the near future. |

Halloween III: Season of the Witch is such an underrated film.
When I first saw bits and pieces of the movie during the mid-1980s, I was underwhelmed, because, like everyone else, I was expecting another Michael Myers film. As I watched it tonight from an adult perspective, I realized that it's a spot-on horror movie in every regard that is even more relevant now in 2014 than it was in 1982, because we are now in the age of viral marketing. I'm a huge fan of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and the influence of that movie on this Halloween sequel is one reason why it works for me right now. I also like the early 1980s computers-meet-supernatural vibe of the film. Tom Atkins and Stacy Nelkin both pull their weight in their starring roles, although I still cannot watch Atkins in any film without chuckling as I think about his character in Creepshow. Dan O'Herlihy is the real highlight of this movie for me, though. As I listen to the commentary track right now after going through the bonus features on the Scream Factory disc, I agree with the initial idea that the filmmakers had when going into this movie...that the Halloween franchise had unlimited potential as a series of unrelated stories centered around the holiday itself. I would have liked that better than a continuation of the Michael Myers saga, although I'm probably in the minority. I'm glad that I made a short trip out to another local Movie Stop location during their Scream Factory sale today for this one. I'm done with Scream Factory titles for the time being, and it's now just a matter of waiting for the second Vincent Price set and for Squirm. |

This is unfortunate, because it really is a solid flick on its own terms. The original team of filmmakers from the first two Halloween movies were at the top of their game in terms of cinematography, pacing, and storytelling for this third film. Speaking of Creepshow, that movie would probably be my dream title from Scream Factory. I'd love to see a souped-up Blu-ray of Creepshow with tons of Scream extras with the cast, crew, and possibly King himself. |

It also suffered because Halloween 2 was all about Michael Myers again. If Season of the Witch was Halloween 2 people wouldn't have associated the series with him as much. After two Myers movies though, it was well established.
Also today's marketing could make it clear it was an anthology series, whereas that was harder to broadcast back then (if they even tried). Also Halloween 2 wasn't a good movie (IMO), so they lost a ton of audience. |
