Disney have put out some subpar transfers of their animation classics, but this isn't one of them. Last edited by Todd Tomorrow; 09-17-2014 at 11:53 PM. |

Really?
Do you remember the sky in Belle being orange/yellow like that? I got the VHS just a couple of weeks after I saw the film in the theater and it was EXACTLY like what i had seen! By the way, the still i posted above from Be our Guest is a film still or maybe coming from a cell or something and not an LD or VHS screenshot, and it shows how the colors were! You can't deny that the colors were changed, and this is evident from the bluray itself. If you see the work in progress film (and i think it opens in a little window along with the film, i don't have the Bluray), it shows the original colors from a 35mm transfer with grain, albeit in the darker spectrum, but you see that it was a different color palette. I have the Blu-Ray, and I think it looks and sounds phenomenal. I saw this movie so many times growing up, and had to memorize all the songs for school at that age (junior-high choir). Its my favorite entry in the Disney Renaissance, and I couldn't be happier with how this release turned out.

The only thing that looked odd to me on the bluray was the way the light shining through windows seemed to be a much less impressive effect than it was in the theater/on the VHS, but yeah, those screen caps make it all look weird. I don't think the bluray looks bad exactly, but it was an odd artistic choice.

Wrong. Goto YouTube there is a video there comparing the restoration to the original colors. The original has a MUCH more artistic use of colors. Especially in the skin tones . The restoration looks like a Saturday morning cartoon. If you can't see that I can't help you. Last edited by mdonovan; 09-18-2014 at 03:10 AM. |
