Id certainly buy a 2D IMAX version. 3D IMAX version is useless for me cuz I dont have a 3DTV; while 2D non-IMAX is a no no, cuz Im not a big fan of the movie either.

Only a 2D IMAX version will tempt me to getting it.

But we only got the scope version on Blu-ray.
I believe it was the opposite, finished in 2K and upscaled the 4K. The ARRI doesn't have a 4K sensor.

No, it was Mastered in 4K.

I don't even know how that happens. How can a release be this messed up. And the fact they haven't done anything about it is embarrassing considering it is the 'ultimate' package that came way after the 2D release and sold for $40. I'm still pissed.

To people who say there's no problem, there is 100% a problem. Just search DOTM avsforum. Don't know how anyone would be unable to notice the brightness dip on a properly calibrated screen though.... Every disk has the same problem.

That is amazing! How did they miss it?? I caught it on first watch before I even read about it.

I was lucky to view Transformers in 2D in my theater's local GTX. It wasn't IMAX but it was huge. And it was glorious 2D.

I know, but at least they didn't throw away the 0.8K.

Before watching it, I'd say they should release a 2D IMAX Blu-ray. But the switches happen way too often and a lot of them are unnecessary IMO. It's they went "Eeny, meeny, miny, moe" with each cut scene. I haven't seen the IMAX version of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, were the switches as bad as they are in this?

That movie has less than 10 minutes of IMAX footage.

No, ROTF has a forest fight that is all IMAX for like 5 minutes and then another 5 minute scene that is all IMAX which is intercut with another scene that is shot in anamorphic so you get varying AR but barely within the actual scene.

They are glorious though. The forest fight is one of the most stunning scenes on BD. I wish the finale had been in IMAX too, but the few scenes that are in it with the Devastator are devastatingly gorgeous.

There were mainly two chapters that made use of IMAX.
The forest fight and the portions in Egypt, mostly involving Devastator.

The forest fight was quite good. It had about two scope cuts, but it's otherwise a good 5 minute stretch where it was the full 1.78 frame uninterrupted.

The Egypt chapters were very annoying though. I recall it was only full frame when Devastator was on screen. And whenever he's not in there, it cuts back and forth with the scope ratio.

Age of Extinction was as bad as this. I would have preferred a fixed AR in 3D, either scope or flat. Just not this quick cuts between the two ARs.

TDK and TDKR also did this. The AR switches are either poorly planned or not systematic. That's why the best use of IMAX is still Catching Fire.

Yeah. Star Trek Into Darkness faced similar quick cuts between the two ARs too. But it wasn't as bad as TF:ROTF and when it did open, it was gorgeous! It was great cinematography.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen? Meh...
If you study the shots of forest battle carefully, all Michael Bay really did was rigged the forest with explosives and just asked Shia LaBeouf to run and hide from the explosions. Everything else is just visual effects animations slapped onto these IMAX footages.
And Egypt? It's almost like someone filmed it like a tourist or a documentary filmmaker and then throw in Devastator, complete with wrecking ball testicles for good measure.

I'd easily say it's one of the worst use of IMAX cameras in a Hollywood feature. Completely pointless and I almost regretted wasting so much effort getting this copy.

You should spend a little more money and ship it back to Michael Bay's office.

Actually it was one of the better uses of IMAX, because in theatres the robots were HUGE and tall since it was in full IMAX AR. The forest fight is probably the best IMAX bit aside from the burj khalifa in MI4. It is totally pointless at home though, with half the stuff screen off. Just using IMAX for no good reason like in TDK, Catching fire, etc. for just visual quality/as a gimmick is stupid to me.
