Good thing I had asked for the first one for Xmas last year as I knew there would eventually be a new version of it coming out.

What is the release date?

Totally forgot about this release from Shout coming out and bought the current BD/DVD release and the old special edition DVD for the features.

I feel so dumb right now.

Not at all!
I see nothing wrong with owning 3 versions of this film on two formats!

I'll probably sell them once they announce the content of this new release. I'm sure they'll port over the commentary and other features from the DVD.

I've got my fingers crossed, and hoping for something new! A retro roundtable would be amazing. SF seems to do a good job of getting cast/crew into the studio for new material, so I'm interested to see who they can land for this. Could you imagine Kurt Russell!

I'm sure they'll have some new content, especially for such a big catalog title like this. They've done very well by Carpenter.

I'm willing to bet we see new interviews with Tom Atkins and Adrienne Barbeau, at the very least. I would love to see a Kurt Russell interview done in the same fashion as the Jamie Lee Curtis interview for The Fog.

I still think EFNY and Mad Max were oddball choices for SF pickups. Both have already received stellar treatment. Aside from a few new interviews, what can we really expect to motivate us to double (or triple) dip? Besides the excellent extras already produced, it'll be tough to top the gatefold slipcase MGM came up with for the DVD, which still proudly sits on my shelf. In terms of PQ, everybody swears the current transfer is adequate, which it probably is, but I think there's enough room for improvement and the odds of MGM coming up with a new master is slim to none. As for Mad Max, the best I can hope for is awesome artwork so I'll have an excuse to get rid of that cumbersome metalpak Warner dreamt up. Other than that, good luck getting Mel Gibson to give an interview.

Keep in mind, that just because "we", diehard collectors of the format may already have a certain release, new collectors/enthusiasts to the format might not. Of course there's no way of officially tracking how many new customers there are every: day/week/month/year, so major studios, and smaller boutique labels try to "test the waters" so to speak.
Automobiles get re-released every year, but nobody complains about that.

After they got Liam Neeson and Frances McDormand on Darkman, nothing could surprise me (besides Mel Gibson).

It would be awesome if they could also get The Thing.

I can't speak for Mad Max, as I've never seen them, but EFNY has not had any stellar treatment for BD. The BD released has no special features, it has generic packaging, and the video needs to be remastered better. With Shout releasing it, we are bound to at least have extras and the original poster art for the cover, and who knows, maybe they will remaster it for us.

Dude! Scream Factory Collector's Edition Artwork with slipcover!

(Well, that and the fact that I don't own the film yet.)
