How does this affect the PS3? Won't it overheat the PS3?

I've has my PS3 doing folding@home continuously (all 24 hours of the day, every day of the week) except for when I close folding to watch a Blu-ray movie. It's been doing that since Firmware Version 1.60. I'm BradleyStorm on the Blu-ray.com folding team. My PS3 continues to execute flawlessly.

I keep the PS3 standing "vertically" on the inexpensive mount (the one with the blue light) that is available. I don't keep it in an enclosed area. I've never had a problem with overheating or performance in all that time. And we do watch a LOT of Blu-ray movies.

Nope. See the below (in red) which is copied from an earlier post I made. My PS3 is still running 24/7 with absolutely no problems.

Hello everyone.

Just joined blu-ray forum. My PS3 has been crunching @folding for blu-ray folding team for some days now. Already 5-6 work units completed.

My first post

Cheers

I also know someone that has been running it pretty well 24/7 since Folding came out which is around 2 months now..

There was also a hacking contest with the sponsers leaving it on for 2 months 24/7 with no issues.

This is just a very well built piece of machinery. It's that simple.

I've got 38 with the PS3 as of this writing for the team. No problems whatsoever with the unit. It runs F@H whenever there's not a movie playing or I'm not on FFXII. Boy that game looks awesome now that it's UPscaled!!!
The PS3 continues to prove it's the greatest multi-purpose computing device ever created.
An XBOX 360 would have bit the dust after a week of F@H torture

We are up in the top 600 now at 598!! Go team! That's over 100 spots we have gained since I started folding less than a month ago.

GREAT job team!

Right now, we have 96 active CPUs working in the team with 72 members. There may be some anonymous members folding too. Do use a name, it is fun to see your ranking going up.

Right now we are higher than 600. It will be nice to shoot for team ranking of "300" OR a member list of 300 by the time the movie 300 is released on blu-ray in late July? THAT will be something to brag about to the HD-DVD team!

Aside from winning blu-ray war, it is for a good cause. We are helping with increasing the possibility of solving the mystery of Alzeimer and other medical questions.

Come on, let's lend the power of our PS3 and pave the road to the cure for cancer and many more diseases!
Changed my name from ps3simon to simcal and it started me over again on work units, my old name is still on the board.
Any way i joined my lap top up as well now.
For anybody interested join the team.
