I'm worried about the same thing. I have around 15 of their releases so I will have to check each one to find out what code is on each disc. I have already checked a couple. I am going to hold off buying anymore of their titles until this is resolved.

And it looks like Well Go USA has not addressed the issue on their Facebook page yet. Hopefully its because they are looking into the problem and not ignoring us.

My copies of Ip Man & Ip Man 2 were only purchased a couple of months ago yet they already have bronzing along the edges. Both play fine for the time being though. I got them in the $7.96 bin at Wal-Mart so perhaps they are old pressings.

Revanche and Sanjuro/Yojimbo are LB42 as well, but no bronzing or what not

couldn't find the mould codes of 10k7 etc... only the LO and LB codes
Did you check the playback at around the 1 hr 15 min to 1 hr 20 min interval?

I skimmed through revanche and yojimbo/sanjuro at those points but no issue at the slowest speeds. The top 4 all have issues..

I did the same skim with kagemusha but no issue there

EDIT: just checked. right at 1:19:50 seconds the disc starts freezing up and having problems.. guess I can add that one to the list too... with 5 of the 8 L0/LB titles going bad, I'm just going to send all 8 in. no reason to take any chances.... is M out of print? I see it's still sold on Amazon so I would assume they still have stock.

I agree that there should be a separate WellGo thread. They will get lost in all the Criterion talk.

I checked my discs again, this time under a lamp light. Most looked fine. The ones I'm iffy about, are CHE PART 1 (IFPI LB42), & YOJIMBO/SANJURO (IFPI LB42). The disc has almost this purplish tint to them, that I didn't see on the other discs. Maybe that's normal, or maybe my discs are starting to go bad. These are ones I'll be checking first.

Just watched "Pierrot le fou" tonight, played fine no problems also watched the extras, I'm surprised by how many people are having Bronzing issues.
I just want People out there to know that I own 11 Criterions that are listed to having a chance of this problem and not one has Bronzing.

Bigger Than Life
Days of Heaven
8 1/2
Howards End
Monterey Pop
Paris, Texas
Pierrot Le Fou
The Seventh Seal
Stagecoach
Walkabout (Replacement Disc 2011)
Ride With The Devil
Gomorrah (Not Peeling)
A Night To Remember (Not Peeling)

My Sanjuro and Yojimbo were purchased individually and are both fine.

You would think I may possibly have had 1 or 2 Problem Disc's but No visible problems to address, all load (Will eventually watch all to the end, but in no hurry).
So what I guess I'm trying to say is there are a lot of good/safe copies that have been sold.

I was talking about Bronzing not playback issues. I've watched most of these the past year and they play fine.

Pressured by the latest Criterion news, i unwrapped my out of print blu-ray of Pierrot le Fou the other day to inspect the disc and tonight I watched the entire movie without any problems on my Sony blu ray player. I can't believe it took me this long to see this movie. True, I'm not really inspired by Godard much and not into his glorifications of violence and rampant sociopathic characters, but I actually liked this movie! I liked it a lot more than Week-end actually. And most importantly, I liked that my supposedly defective Sonopress disc wasn't bronzed and functioned perfectly!

By the way, someone out there needs to create a catchy t-shirt that reads "Got Bronzed?"

And below that there would be a picture of a bronze medal but instead of a medal it will be a picture of a bronzed blu-ray disc with the word "Criterion" inside it!

Well, not all. The Sony pressed discs are immaculate so no problems there. A particular batch of Sonopress discs are another story.

That's what I meant. The bad sonopress discs. I unfortunately have all sono press discs for the listed titles titles since I bought them in the year they first came out .....hopefully they have copies of "M" to spare since someone said it was oop

You had a head start compared to me. I didn't buy my first blu-rays until late 2011 and my collection is minuscule compared to yours (I'm a selective consumer). Compared to all the other crazy things going on around the world, I really shouldn't be worrying too much about the Criterion disc troubles.

I also purchased my copies of Ip Man 1 & 2 at Walmart. Ip Man 1 looks perfectly fine. Ip Man 2 however has realy bad bronzing. I can read the codes on my Ip Man 1 bluray and they don't seem to be the tainted codes, however Ip Man 2 I cannot read the codes at all. They don't appear for me no matter how hard I look. Checked my other Well Go Blurays that I have and all seem fine as well...just this tainted Ip Man 2 ;(

Side Note: Ip Man 1 didn't have a slipcover. Ip Man 2 came with a slipcover. I'm assuming Ip Man 1 is a newer pressing and Ip Man 2 is old stock.

So I found! Annoying to see it was the paper sleeves (probably), but I've got some Case Logic Binders on order now. Hopefully that keeps things chemically inert?

What's strange is that it's only a very, very small number of discs that show that issue, and none as strongly as the Criterions. Must be some kind of combination of factors.

Man, this sucks big time. It's bad for us and the companies.
I can't believe this has happened.
I have a few Criterions with the codes, but they appear to be alright.

I'll have to check them thoroughly sometimes soon.

Have Criterion reacted to the international customer question yet?
