The 360 has been out what? A year and a half or so? The PS3 six months? The Wii has been out about six months as well. VERY early in this ballgame. Your article makes some good points and raises some interesting concerns, but I think they're raising the panic flag a bit too early in this game, all told. ![]() Here's why: I'm already seeing "GameCube itis" show up for the Wii. People will buy Nintendo systems for Nintendo games ultimately...not to play watered and dumbed down non high def ports of what should be next gen titles, just for the sake of using the Wii remote. This isn't going to be an easy cash cow for third parties. I don't think a Nintendo system has been a boon for third parties since the SNES! Right now the Wii is still enjoying the honeymoon but I'm not yet seeing enough to suggest to me there's going to be more substantial software follow through than the tepid support the GameCube had before it. I need to see more follow through than Mario Party 8 and kiddie stuff like that. In the end, gamers are going to go to where the big games are. I could see a lot of people buying at least one other system and a Wii on the side for laughs, but I'm just not worried about it, in total. |
