Really looking forward to the EE, I agree with the above poster who mentioned that this film felt like it was missing stuff, unlike the LOTR trilogy and first Hobbit. I like all of the EEs better than theatrical but this one seemed like it desperately needed one.

Can't wait for the new stuff with Beorn and Mirkwood scenes, these were some of the most obvious omissions and really looking forward to Thrain.

However the Saruman scene in ROTK, was sorely missed from the TC.

Hi guys...

Does anyone here has seen the Canadian Edition of these movies (being WB movies) ??? I want to buy the canadian one because it arrives in just 3 days in my country through Amazon.ca, but I need to know a couple of things first, hope you can help me out...

1 Do these actually have bilingual cover art (english/french) ??

2 Does it comes with spanish subtitles, just as in the USA edition?

hope someone could help me here...

thank you very much!

Empire Magazine's Nick de Semlyen has been dropping some new bits of info on the EE on Twitter here, here, here and here.

Tweet #1: "If you're curious about the Desolation Of Smaug extended cut, the biggest change is the addition of Thorin's dad, Thrain."

Tweet #2: "Thrain basically becomes Gandalf's sidekick. He's in all the Dol Guldur scenes, and was clearly digitally removed from the theatrical cut."

Tweet #3: "They've also reinstated a scene explaining why the Master of Laketown attacks Bard, something that makes little sense in the theatrical cut."

Tweet #4: "Also new to the Smaug extended cut: Stephen Fry eats bollocks!"

On Mirkwood: "One new scene, involving the crossing of a river."

On Beorn: "One new scene. A new intro to him (he's chopping wood)."

All sounds like good stuff to me! Looking forward to watching the extended version and all the bonus features. Four times running it's a great 2-day event, I'm sure this fifth time won't let down.

Aye, the extra features are what's really great about these EE sets.

I wonder if the 25 minutes of extra footage includes any existing Gandalf scenes with Thrain put back in to the shot (so the movie won't actually be 25 minutes longer) or whether we'll get a full 25 minutes of goodness on top of that stuff?

Unless something drastic has happened between the EE trailer and now (it hasn't), there is at least one other new scene of Beorn, where he is talking to Gandalf. I think this individual is not as familiar with the film as some of us, hence the mistake. It gives hope that we'll still get more new stuff in Mirkwood (such as the White Stag scene).

As far as I've understood it, it's 25 minutes longer, which means we're getting even more new stuff when you count alternate versions of scenes already in the theatrical cut.

Yeah, I thought it was odd at first he didn't mention some other stuff we know should be there, but then I realized he's probably not as familiar with the film like you said, so he wouldn't be able to tell. We'll know for sure what's in when the EE is released digitally through iTunes and UltraViolet next week.

My local Walmart had a massive stock of AUJ EE. If youre gonna purchase in store then they are your best bet probably. They will likely have the 2D version for $17-$19.99 like AUJ EE.

I will look into what looks better for the text. As for the picture - they are mostly aligned to the right of the page on the previous booklets.

So it does. The blurb on the back cover also mentions the HFR in passing, I thought it was odd that there was barely a mention of it at all on the Hobbit:AUJ sets so it'd be great to get some insight on it in the special features this time around.
