A Safe Place is great, I love Orson Welles in that film.

I certainly wouldn't say great (or good or not that terrible) but I'm certainly glad it's in the set. In a way, the supplements are the real star of the BBS set and having seen all the films in their entirety makes all the various interviews all the more interesting.

We've discussed this in the past but A Safe Place on blu-ray is best with a beverage on top.

Well, my telephone rang it would not stop
It’s President Kennedy callin’ me up
He said, “My friend, Bob, what do we need to make the country grow?”
I said, “My friend, John, Brigitte Bardot, Anita Ekberg,Sophia Loren”

Slight problem, Drive, He Said is on the same disc and I like that one more and more with each viewing. Ironic because Jaglom's Karen Black's husband in the film, so I don't totally hate Jaglom.

Welles wasn't bad, but he couldn't save the film. I'm not upset about the film being in the collection, as I'm glad some people got value out of it. However, it's, at least for me, the white elephant in the fabulous BBS set. I try and try, but I cannot watch it without getting bored and angry.

Came back from Rome on Saturday to find this waiting for me:

Anyone recognise this? Shame it didn't look like that famous scene in LDV. Still, was great to be there.

Also, look at the spine on F for Fake:

Shots of the Tati set surfaced too (thanks to CriterionCast Instagram):

Happy La Dolce Vita day guys.

The Great Owl approves of the gif image that Fellini912 posted above.

I'm really looking forward to seeing La Dolce Vita in high definition after owning the Koch Entertainment DVD set for years.

No new Criterions for me today, though. As much as I'd love to buy both La Dolce Vita and My Darling Clementine, I'm going to wait for the November sale for both of them.

I decided to use most of my October budget in the spirit of Halloween season...

I ordered the Vincent Price Collection II from blowitoutahere.com for $46, including shipping.

I caved in and bought the Friday the 13th: The Complete Collection Blu-ray box set from Best Buy for $64 during their one-day deal last week, I am currently in the process of revisiting all 12 movies right now, and I'm having an absolute blast reliving my 1980s childhood/teenage nostalgia associated with seeing these film back in the day. (I thought that I would be content with the stand-alone Blu-rays of the first two movies, because those are the best ones, but I really had a hankering to see The Final Chapter, Jason Lives, and The New Blood again after watching those.) Don't judge.

I also caved in and bought A Nightmare on Elm Street Collection Blu-ray set for the $23 Amazon deal. I'll probably revisit those before month's end to indulge my 1980s teenage self once again, then put this set next to the Friday the 13th set on my shelf and let them fight it out.

I plan to cap all of this off next week by purchasing the Criterion Blu-ray of The Vanishing. I cannot think of a better way to close out the season.

Add a few Kino Lorber purchases and the Warner Archive Blu-rays of Yankee Doodle Dandy and Possessed to the fold, and the result is that the rest of the Criterions will have to sit tight until late November.

Smile B&N sale & Tati Box

How certain are we on the Nov. B&N sale?

I preordered the Tati set on Amazon back when it was $87 but with the B&N sale it should be closer to $63. I would like to cancel Amazon and wait. Honestly I dont think this set is going to be for me but I still want to check it out.

If I cancel Amazon & then the B&N sale doesnt happen there is no way Im paying $124 lol

Such stress 😜😜😜

We had b&n insiders confirm it, and it is biannual.

I thought I would not be able to wait, but I have the Australian blu in transit to me, so that should hold me over until the B&N sale.

Fake! It says 2015 on the side. That film came out in 2004.

La Dolce Vita is on my unfortunately long list of films that I really didn't see the fuss about the first time I saw it. Although I'm not into telling folks, "you just didn't get it," I'm telling my old self - the one who saw this film a LOOONG time ago, "bwdowiak, you probably just didn't get it, man!"

I'll be picking this one up.

on a related note, I loved my recently purchased DVD of L'Avventura so much, that I'll be upgrading to blu and unloading the DVD. another one I apparently "didn't get"

I'll probably wait for the sale. I have a gift card put I hate paying for shipping. It practically cancels out the discount.
