Shaolin from Well Go USA was also pressed in 2011 and they have it on the list of recalls. So the issue goes into 2011. Maybe they pressed the discs in late 2010 to release in 2011?

All the Well Go USA titles were done at a different company and different plant than the Criterion /Big Lebowski issued ones

In fact, this Bronzegate would be to physical media in general what that meteorite that struck earth 65 mil. years ago was to dinosaurs.
You are correct! it would be the end of physical media, especially based on the fact that Blu-ray was suppose to last forever and was boasted as practically indestructible. Reminds me of the Titanic ... oh crap, hopefully that disc wasn't pressed at this facility. I certainly wouldn't trust the physical media format again.

This might create a panic in the coming months if this isn't addressed by all studios soon. We need assurances this won't happen again.

That doesn't make me feel better. We now have multiple plants with the issue. What other studios used that plant. Crap I am starting to panic.

I am curious, you have a large collection, have you gone thru your titles yet?

You're confusing yourself with your hysteria. Please calm down, read the OP (including the linked posts), and read the posts that wormraper and I have made on the last five pages.

A methodical, scientific approach will help us find the bad discs.

no one knows yet who else used the plant, for how long, or if that plant ever was fixed... no one knows.

I haven't gone through my whole collection yet, just spot checked, as it would take me literally months of looking at each disc, skimming through it etc to find bad sectors and report back... I gotta go off of other people finding them and me looking at all "estimated" ones

You are of course assuming the issue is confined. I hope your right.

Well, the alternative is to assume that all BDs will go bad -- in which case, we might as well stop buying physical media or downgrade to DVDs. Is that what you really want?

Of course not. You're right, we shouldn't jump to conclusions just yet. We need more information and facts. Hopefully the studios are doing a proper investigation into it. Patience unfortunately isn't one of my stronger suits.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks this is a plot to move us over to a online digital platform.

They're doing that in other ways, such as putting movies online weeks/months ahead of physical media release dates.

Also, they can't intentionally/knowingly sell defective products.

Sure they can't.

BTW ... Blu-ray has a shelf life of 30 - 200 years. So this is really messed up that its happening at all, let alone this soon. There must be something seriously wrong at those plants. Maybe they used a defective batch of discs or materials? Hopefully we can track this down and get replacements for potentially future disc failures before they go out of print, like some have already.

Have you done a visual inspection of each Disc? I think it would take you a several hours. I plan to do it tonight and I will let you know if I find any bad titles and how long it takes. I estimate about 2 hours to check 1000 Discs.

I've done a few hundred. But not all

Anyone ever hear from Funimation regarding the Afro Samurai: Resurrection Blu-Ray exchange. This link posted at the head of this Thread has been dead since 2009 with no one claiming to have received a fixed disc.

I tried to contact Funimation via their website but kept getting a 520 error whenever I tried to send an email from their support page. I left the message on Facebook instead. Is there an email address handy to contact someone there?

Default Quick question about Criterion's disc replacement status

I apologize in advance if someone on this thread has already provided any or all of the information which I'm requesting with regard to this matter...

I recently (about three weeks ago) sent in my faulty Criterion discs (which were freezing up, skipping scenes or just not operational) - (the specific titles returned were, of course, listed in the official Criterion statement sheet and email, with regard to their offer to replace any faulty discs), and I was just wondering if there's some sort of turn around timetable.

Of course, I understand that The Criterion Collection offices might well be currently inundated with such replacement requests. I'm merely wondering if there is any estimated time of arrival for replacement discs and/or when it might be appropriate to contact their offices and inquire further about the matter.

They haven't said anything about this matter beyond that press release. It took them years to even acknowledge this problem.

I truly appreciate your prompt response! While I must admit the fact that it took them so long to acknowledge the problem is a bit ...shall we say disconcerting, I'll just remain cautiously optimistic for the time being.

I guess for now, (and maybe for a good while) I'll have to wait. Eventually though, I'm hopeful that I'll begin seeing other posters on this thread announcing that they've begun to receive their replacement discs. When I receive mine I'll be sure to post the details.

Thanks again!

Wow, I just checked my Big Lebowski disc.... it has turned into a shiny bronze coaster ......

I'm imagining many of us jumping through fiery hoops to get a replacement
