I know the movie sucks, but the completist in me needs a US release of Hannibal Rising. It is now the only UK blu on my shelf and I hate everything about it; fat box, terrible cover art with tons of text all over it, and the rating logos. My wife loves it for some reason though. They couldnt have picked a worse actor; pretty crappy performance, doesnt resemble Tony in the slightest, and nonsensical accent.

[Show spoiler]perhaps most of all, I hate that it is implied that Hannibal was created by the evils of the soldiers rather than the far more terrifying situation where he was just f*cked up.from day 1. Did not like the romantic element either.

I do like Hannibal though. Just sucks that Jodie Foster passed on it. I can never look at Julianne Moore and think Clarice Starling, no matter how much I try to accept it.

I hope they replace her with CGI in a future release like jedighost Anikan in Jedi

As for Red Dragon - no. Ill watch Manhunter instead thanks!
I wouldn't call Hannibal better, they're very different movies, but I do love both. Hannibal is made by a director who knows how to shoot a movie, and has much more visual flair.

Thing is though...Julianne Moore is more believable in that role than Jodie Foster - and I really like them both. Julianne Moore is more physical.

I dunno I guess it's a person preference thing. I've never been a big Julianne Moore fan. I would've liked at least someone that looked a bit like Foster. Maybe Helen Hunt or something

Im not sure anyone could have played the part better except for Foster herself maybe. And like I said above, I think Moore is more believable in that role than Foster is in any case.

No, it's just that when you express an opinion (to which you're certainly entitled), you open yourself up to dissenting opinion (to which the rest of us are certainly entitled). I'm not trying to get personal or combative, I just think that ranking HANNIBAL (a movie I do like, mind you) over SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, or stating Julianne Moore is a more believable Clarice Starling than Jodie Foster are among the more outré opinions I've read in a long while.

Rankings:

1 - Manhunter
2 - Silence of the Lambs
3 - Hannibal
4 - Red Dragon
5 - Hannibal Rising

I find Red Dragon & Hannibal Rising pretty damn poor. And think Hannibal is nowhere near as good as Manhunter or Silence of the Lambs. Certainly good enough to own but not in the same league.

That's your opinion. My opinion differs! Its not rocket science. And Julianne Moore seems physically more believable in this role than Jodie Foster for me (even though they are both great actors of course).

My rankings:

1 - Hannibal
2 - Manhunter
3 - Silence of the Lambs

big gap here and don't own these -

4 - Red Dragon
5 - Hannibal Rising

I think Red Dragon is very underrated. The lesser of the "trilogy," sure, but it's a decent flick. Honestly even Silence of the Lambs has some iffy moments now, when you watch it 20+ years later. That "nice Chianti" and sucking noise thing isn't nearly as creepy in 2014 for example.

Is there anything on the back cover that could hint it is the corrected Blu-ray? I'm tired of waiting for MGM to do any kinda remastering for this. It's the 25th anniversary of The Silence of the Lambs, and there is no fricking sign of a remastering edition coming out. -_-

Yes I think SOTL does suffer from being somewhat dated now. Mind you, I thought that about SOTL when I first saw Hannibal a long time ago!

The UK edition is region-free, looks much better and has all the old 2-disc DVD features. I doubt the movie ever gets handled better than that, since it's not very popular.

That's bullcrap! Lot of far worse sequels get better transfers on Blu-ray. Also I really like Ridley Scott's Hannibal. People only crap on it because they keep comparing it to The Silence of the Lambs. When it's actually more of a stand-alone film.

Same here. In fact, I'm probably in the very small minority that prefers it to STOL and considers it to be one Scott's best films.

Me too! Its not just you. I like SOTL a lot but Hannibal is a different beast altogether. Hannibal starts a bit ropey maybe but I absolutely love it. And the soundtrack is just the icing on the cake...
