What about dual-strip 3-D with 1.75:1 (intended ratio) for preservation and the digital conversion for theatrical compatibility access? That would greatly support the film industry.

Honestly, re-reading it, I don't think the article I posted is very reliable. Google has no other sources saying he's chosen film for Silence. He released a statement supporting Kodak, which said nothing about Silence. It probably won't come out until it actually starts shooting. I could see Scorsese choosing digital 3D to enhance the drama or 2D film to enhance the cinematic quality of a period piece. Either one makes creative sense to me. I'd put my money on 2D and film though. Last edited by BleedOrange11; 09-01-2014 at 06:31 PM. |

Yeah, I didn't know till I pulled up that list again. Though I never really got into the games, I can imagine this could be a nice, more aggressive change of pace for animated movies, if they focus on the action and unique gadget weapons. Hopefully the 3D is strong.

Thanks. Here's hoping they are going for strong 3D in Jupiter Ascending.
Channing Tatum is good in action roles, and White House Down was way better than expected with a Die Hard style to it. Lots of action. Looks like the action could be great here also if they gear it more in line with the amount in the Matrix films. |

It'll be interesting to see if anyone shows Avatar in anything above 24p at this point. Theaters (At least in the US and Europe) are going to ***** about retrofitting their current equipment for a limited payoff. fitprod |

I'd have to see it first, but I think you're probably right and I agree with the faster frame rate being useful for video games and the response time frame rate. I played a driving game at 30 fps, then played one at 60 fps, and the response and fluidity of the 60 fps driving game was much better.

So why go so high, bigger isn't always better, it can become moot once it goes beyond what we can see. Also 120fps isn't happening as can you imagine the rendering work that would be required. I would bet it will be 24 or 48 (likely 48). |

That makes more sense, but that is shooting at 60fps not 120 (just like hobbit is shoot at 48 not 96). One reason I see 48 being the 'better' option is the pulldown errors that would occur when trying to show the film at 24 which is still a very real reality and something it a film needs to be able to do. If they go above 48 atm they almost have to jump up to 72 as a result. Still i'm all for higher frame rates, and 60 would be better then 48, but for the reasons above I don't think it will happen.

Awesome, thanks. I hope they learned a lesson with the great high medium to strong 3D of Guardians of the Galaxy and go for that, or better if they can.

Very good point. It would take a lot more resources for the rendering farms to crank out that many more frames for a 3 hour film, and cost a lot more too, for a result that probably wouldn't be worth it to most audiences. 48 fps is fast enough IMO. |

The end computer animated monsters rendered in 3D, were not converted. I don't have proof of a link at the moment, but proof of the hybrid 3D technique can be found on the extras of Men in Black 3 3D; where they show CGI renders being matched with live action converted footage. I have to watch that short extra again. |

Ribbit 3D mentions it'll be in a theater near you in 2014. Guessing it'll be on blu ray 3D next year.
Age of Ultron Avengers 2 should be something. Great trailer with a much darker tone. Here's hoping the whole sequel has the strong 3D of the final 40 minutes of Avengers 1 and avoids the milder dialog shots too. Slight spoiler: Avengers 2: Ultron was created by Iron Man here, designed to take over his role as a protector, but it becomes self aware, like Skynet of the Terminator Series and can transfer it's digital mind into other robots at will from what I read. Voiced by James Spader of the Blacklist TV show. |
