Default 32" HDTV Blu-ray Question

Hey guys i have a 32" LG HDTV and i was wondering if it would be worth it buying a Blu-Ray player or if i should just stick with my Upconverting DVD Player?

does the picture look as good on a 720P tv as it does on a 1080P tv?

look at my setup lol... (in my signature)... I have close to $5000 worth of audio equipment, a ps3, a bunch of blus and a 32 inch set... but when i upgrade my system the TV and receiver (and maybe surrounds) will be the only things in need of upgrading in a long time...

Same here, I just spent close to $1500 on a new reciever and new surround sound speakers for a 7.1 system, have a ps3 and only 32" LCD. I plan of going bigger once I graduate college.

A lot of loot in audio here...... and a 37" 720P Aquos that was a gift.....

Unless you like to sit about 4 feet away (nose to screen) I think Blu-Ray will AMAZE you, at the difference on a 32" 720P set.

Or you could always stick to upconverting, and buy a PS3..... that sounds like good advice right there!!

Do not stick with the upconverter! My first foray into HD had been with a 32" Samsung and a blu-ray, and I was blown away by it, ofcourse it led me to buy a bigger Sony hdtv, but by all means go for it!

Uh guys, why stick with the upconverting dvd player if he gets a PS3?

You haven't seen your HDTV until you've watched a few decent Blu-rays on it. Huge difference, no matter the size.

If you are gonna get a Blu-ray player, you may as well get a PS3. Its top of the pack in DVD upconversion, too.

A friend of mine has the same tv you do and a PS3. Does your HDTV have the 10,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio? If so, you won't be able to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. Look at my signature as it tells you the type of tv I have but like I said its hard to tell the difference between 1080p and 720p if it has 10,000:1 contrast ratio.

Go for the PS3 and ditch the Toshiba upconverting player. Come join the Blu Oyster Cult and feel the power of the blu!

A PS3 will upconvert the movies, over HDMI, as well so no need for the old player.

With an upconvert you still will be taking a disk that was coded 480 and converting the video to a HD format. It is possible that some of the information is interpreted wrong and you could see some pixelization, grainy picture.

The blu-ray is obviously going to be coded in a 1080 format. And should be a better signal.

It all comes down to are you happy with what you have? Can you wait till the price drops more and blu ray is more affordable? Or do you have to have it now?

I HAD to have the PS3 that was my choice.

I don't know what Fanatic is talking about, but I started out with a 32" Vizio 720p and the difference was mind-blowing. Fully worth it.
