Got my first package from amazon today which contained pirates OTC 4 in 3d. the seller (which uses amazon as its supplier) said the slipcover is included.
However, the slipcover is worn out on every corner, partially ripped on another, and the case is partially broken on the inside. If I tell the seller about this will they send me a replacement or at least another slipcover? It's not critical but i see it in stores all the time in perfect condition and its look bad ass to me.. Just another thought, if I bought this at Walmart full price, could I just switch the slipcover and return it? |

ah nuts. I thought I was in the target thread. Sorry >.<*
as for Amazon, while I am not happy with the cheap envelopes they are using for single releases, I have not had anything severely damaged except for Clone Wars Season 4. They replaced that quickly however. I wish they were more consistent though. I did get one slip cover smushed on one corner but that does not justify me getting a replacement from them. Recently I received vacuum filters from Amazon in mint condition. In another order I got several Blu-rays and a book--all with some kind of damage: creases, dents, etc. Regardless of the packaging used, the BDs constantly arrive with such issues. I don't think the damage occurs in transit all the time. More often than you might think, the BDs leave the warehouse in bad shape. They are evidently mishandled, and those stupid eco cases offer zero defense against the rough handling. The vacuum filters arrived in thick and strong plastic packaging, the walls being more rigid than the eco cases'. LOL.

Bubble mailers really piss me off......however the thing is - literally all retail mailers use them, so what are your other options? I try to go to stores early on Tuesdays for brand new releases to get slipcovers in the best condition possible (and even then you sometimes have to live with a little shelf-wear).....but it's not realistic for all movies you wanna buy. Sometimes you want movies that are not new releases. Sometimes a store might not carry a new release for a more obscure title.
The only alternative I have is to buy multiple blu rays from Amazon - which typically is not a problem for me - and hope that it gets shipped in a box. However Amazon has multiple warehouses throughout the whole country - I placed an order with multiple blu rays earlier this week. One of those movies - Men In Black 3 in 3D - is shipping by itself. What can you do?? Since Men in Black 3 was released 2 years ago, I'm assuming it won't come in a slipcover - which is ok. That's just the way it is when you miss out on a new release. My local Best Buy actually has the movie in stock - with a slipcover - but the thing looks like it has been through hell. Tons of shelf wear and even the plastic covering for the plastic case looked battered. I figured I'd get one in better condition on Amazon than that garbage. I rather have no slipcover at all than one that is ripped, bent, dented - it just looks awful as part of a collection on the shelf rack. I would be more concerned about the bubble envelope shipping if the movie has a slipcover - it's pretty much a guaranteed return on arrival. However, with no slipcover to get crushed (I'm assuming) - I'm hoping for the best. I have ordered from Wal-Mart's site-to-store option in the past as well, which is currently my 2nd best alternative to Amazon. While blu rays are still shipped in bubble-envelopes - site-to-store items must get shipped with all of Wal=Mart's other merchandise and it seems like MUCH more care is taken with packages using this option vs. regular mail. Again, though, if there is no slipcover I might just have Walmart ship to the house - they use a bubble wrapping as well. The truth is.....I guess we're a rare breed, because the vast majority of people don't seem to give two craps about the condition of packaging. I'm sure we've all gotten eye rolls from friends, family - whoever - when you complain about the packaging. Inevitably you get the "Well is the movie ok? Then what do you care". Smfh. I mean, trust me, you have to learn to accept little bends and creases and things, or you'll probably never get the blu ray. The packaging is cheap. It's just the way it is. But I think there is a line of what is acceptable condition and what is not. Last edited by RowdyBurns; 10-29-2014 at 03:53 AM. |

Order off of another retailer site like Wal-Mart or walk into your local Best Buy - and I've run into the same kinds of issues. Warping with the blu ray plastic, nicks and punctures in the plastic/paper, cracks in the plastic, broken hinges......these are not necessarily always Amazon's fault. I've run into these issues practically everywhere. I swear - particularly for older releases - they just re-use the plastic cases. If movies don't sell or get returned or whatever.......they just switch out the paper and discs and put it out for sale again with a new movie. I'm sure we've all opened plastic shrink wraps (the kind that DOESN'T stick to the cases at all), and yet there are still little bits of plastic on the plastic case?? Why else would little plastic wrappings be stuck to the case if it hadn't been wrapped in plastic once already before? If the case is in good shape, well, then whatever. Not a big issue. Again.....it's just the way the industry is, so you can't do anything about it. You have to accept warping and those things to an extent - I'm sure we all have our own idea of where the line is for what is acceptable condition and what is not. |
