I was going to see Interstellar in IMAX, but now I won't see it at all because I think IMAX made the wrong move in not booking Mockingjay Part 1.

I wasn't going to see it either way. I'm sorry, but it just looks really boring to me. I see the trailers and wanna fall asleep.
But yes. They booked the wrong movie!

The audience will be going to the theaters expecting to see Interstellar, but they'll be deep in a dream within a dream, like Inception.

If you buy tickets from Fandango, you will be entered in a contest to win a Mazda3.

So did I, but they filmed a good chunk of Catching Fire with IMAX cameras, for that awesome battle sequence at the end, yet they didn't use any IMAX tech on Mockingjay Part 1 I read... so maybe that had something to do with it as well.

Shame, as I really enjoyed Catching Fire in IMAX and was looking forward to watching this one the same way as well. Very disappointing move imo.

Yeah, I didn't even know there would be no IMAX until I looked for tickets on the 29th. I saw the previous 2 that way as well, and was expecting to do the same with the last 2. Sad panda.

They switched it up for a reason though. There's no arena to speak of - at least not in MJ part 1 - and because much of the film will be set in the dank, dark confines of District 13 they decided to shoot on digital to maximise the on-set flexibility & dynamic range of what they were capturing.

I've never known the shooting format to change so much from movie to movie in a particular franchise. The first one was Super 35, the second one was a combo of (mainly) anamorphic 35 and 65mm IMAX, now the third and presumably fourth will both be anamorphic digital.

Still, Godzilla was shot on a very similar combo (anamorphic glass + Arri Alexa) with a similarly dark and dingy kinda look and it's amazing in terms of the blacks and the shadow detail, so MJ part 1 should be just as good, if not better.

I tell you what guys, I hadn't noticed the running time, that concerns me far more than whether it's IMAX or not (gonna rock Interstellar in 15/70 on the 10th!).

It's just over two hours, that's way shorter than the previous moves. Yeah, I know it's suffering from 'part 1' syndrome but it seems as if as soon as we've sat down that the experience will be over for another year!

Cool, thanks for the info. At least with no IMAX showing, I don't have to spend the money going into downtown Toronto to see it, I can stay close to home and watch it on the Ultra AVX screen here.

So I've watched the first two movies back 2 back for the first time, and wow although I thought i could remember the vital connection between the movies, it is rather important to watch the first movie before watching the second. such little things Peeta says through out the film and the imagery President Snow projects when encountering Katniss make so much sense. I still think the first is the better movie, but catching fire isn't far behind. Roll on November!!.

Yeah, how it is for alot of film in a series. That way you can pick up on things in the said that was said or done in the first. But yes can it be towards the end of Nov already!

Same here, I prefer the first one, but I suspect that Catching Fire will play a bit better for me once I can watch MJ part 1 straight after it.
