The article has been updated, and it seems the info was incorrect. I guess a shorter runtime is to be expected after all.

I liked TDOS theatrical for what it was (a kick arse action film) and the EE is brilliant, but I'd like another fast-paced actioner for Five Armies. That way Jackson can flesh it out again in the EE and everyone's happy.

Seems like it'll be around 145 minutes.

Quote:
Hello all,

I'm the UK cinema manager source who got the running time wrong on yesterday's reports - and I apologise to anyone whose hopes I got up (including myself). Turns out the 180 minutes was a placeholder while our head office got further details from the studio.

Well, now we have them - The Battle of the Five Armies is posied to be an estimated 145 minutes, which fits in much better with Peter Jackson's comments about editing it down from 150 minutes to 140. The studio estimates for the last two films have only been out by a minute so this is a very good idea of what the film will likely be.

I realise I got it very wrong yesterday (and, again, apologies!) so all I can say is that I got it right the past two years and hope you can trust me again on this one, despite the previous slip up!

I wish it was 180 minutes. But oh well. I'm ready for the last middle earth trailer. Wow me one more time Mr. Jackson.

Wish it was as long as possible myself just because I love these films so much.
We have lucked out though with Jackson giving us so much though . I personally love the theatrical and extended editions of these films and if they were five hours long each I would be content.
Much better to have too much than too little in my view

Bootleg copy of the trailer has landed and...wow.

It feels completely different, just based on this trailer. It feels epic, yet restrained. I can't put my finger on it.

This trailer gave me the same feeling I felt after THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING's trailer hit in the middle of 2001.

Sounds cool, here's hoping it's the one that elevates the entire series.

I'm so tempted to watch the leaked trailer, but I'm going to wait for the official upload. Just a few more hours...

3 hours seems too long for a theatrical release, but I can easily see it being that long for the extended edition.

Only Return of the King exceeded three hours. Fellowship: 178, Two Towers: 179, Return of the King: 201.
