I have absolutely no problem whatsoever if a movie studio wants to do something creative with Blu-ray movie packaging.
If they want to do that, it's 100% great by me so long as the packaging design isn't retarded (such as the original 2-disc DVD release of Close Encounters of the Third Kind). Sorry if this pisses off anyone, but the standard Blu-ray case design is frankly nothing special. It's a glorified Amary case. It doesn't lend itself at all to include bundled printed materials. Most movies I buy on Blu-ray in those cases have nothing more than some spam leaflet from the movie studio that's just garbage can fodder. It's rare to get any bonus printed stuff related to the movie included in such cases -mainly because the case design doesn't work on fitting in such stuff. I see no reason why every single movie has to have the same damned case design. The ones who demand to have that uniform look to their movie collection simply must have some O.C.D. issues they need to confront. That's how I see it. Other opinions may vary. I will NOT change mine. Those who want to argue with me on it can just go pound sand. I will not be made to change how I feel on this. Just putting it out there in advance. Flames will be ignored. When DVD was first hitting its prime, some good custom case designs were introduced. I really loved the 2-disc case design for Fight Club. The artwork inside and out was great and it has a slot design good enough to accommodate the "how to start a fight" booklet. That case design was the perfect answer to Warner Bros.' snapper/crapper paperboard cases and the usual yet boring Amaray DVD case designs. The original Fight Club case really signaled that the DVD format had truly arrived and could be a LOT more special than any VHS release. I think certain Blu-ray releases should be free to do the same sort of thing. Having every movie case look the same is BORING. |
