What I am saying Joe, is take advantage of the new 30 day trial period and see if this speaker can truely handle CC duties. Are you always going to wonder if the next over the top surround movie is going to damage your speakers after the warranty has expired. I would like to test that while there is still refunds and free shipping involved.
Oh. I just thought you were being a smartass. Yes, that would be a good idea to not be too timid with it, because if it happens again, I'm just going to send it, along with my new fronts, back for a full refund, and just use my Polks until I decide on something better.

These speakers actually sound really good, when they're working, and to be completely honest, I was a little too buzzed that night, and showing off that train crash scene to my friend, and had it turned up waaay too much. I don't think their waranty covers drunken and disorderly conduct, let me check...no. I wish I could put a governor on my volume knob.

Thanks Brent.

I mean if someone really thinks I deserve a 1, then that's fine. I don't have any delusions that my setup is anymore than it actually is, but at least leave a comment about how I can improve it. Wabo has one of the nicer setups on here, and he got a very low rating because someone didn't like his "gauges" on his top of the line Mcintosh power amps.

Brent,

Last night I put on the train crash scene from Super 8, and had it turned up pretty loud. That was the last thing I watched at the end of the night, and then just turned everything off and didn't notice there was a problem.
[Show spoiler]There is a friend of mine on here named Mark who blew his Paradigm center tweeter on the same scene:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=1219

On a more positive note, I just called Home Theater Direct and told the guy what happened, and he said that it shouldn't matter that I had it cranked up because they torture test their speakers, and that supposedly this is a rare situation. He apologized and said that they will be shipping me a brand new center channel speaker tomorrow. I have to ship the old one back to them, but they are paying for that too.

[Show spoiler]It's very disappointing, but at least it will be taken care of.
WOW - Weird that you watched that Train Crash scene, which IS kind of early in the film,
[Show spoiler](or I should say, there's still PLENTY of movie Remaining AFTER that scene)
, & you didn't even notice the Tweeter not working. Tho', it wasn't the DRIVER itself, which would have rendered your Speaker inoperable pretty much. --- Either way, that's Tremendous CS on HTD's part to send out a new one AND pay for shipping of the damaged one back to them

* Just how LOUD Was your AVR during the movie?! *
[Show spoiler](I played that movie fairly loud, maybe around -18 or so, PERHAPS it was at -16. But, I KNEW when the Train scene was coming & had the Remote in my hand & actually was Turning it Down DURING The Entire Train Crash sequence. By the time the last crash of metal & steel was thumping or flying thru the air, my Volume was prob at -22, -24. That scene is THAT LOUD )

I have Super 8 but it's still sealed. I should bust it open and see what all the fuss is about.
Yes you Should!!
[Show spoiler](did you see it in an IMAX Theater? I did, & Holy Crap at that scene!! )

Have you not ever seen Super 8, or just not the blu-ray yet? I really love that movie. It feels like a summer feel-good movie from back in the 70s or 80s when I was a kid. The 7.1 Dolby TrueHD audio, especially during the train crash scene is just wrong. It can surprise you too, because a good bit of it is just dialog, but when some action kicks in, look out!
It sure is a REFERENCE WORTHY Audio track

It was near the end of the night, and my friend was about to leave, so we just watched the train crash scene, and then I turned everything off right after that, so I didn't know until I fired it up today.

My Sony receiver doesn't show the numbers going up to reference, but instead goes from 0 = silent up to 72 = wide open. With crazy good audio like War of the Worlds or Saving Private Ryan I set it at about 30 ~32. With quieter movies I go up to about 35~37. I think I had it set at about 37~39 like an idiot last night.

Yes, that was really awesome of them to do that for me with no hassle whatsoever. I even told him what I did, and he apologized to me! UPS will be dropping off a packing slip at my house for the blown speaker and I can just slap it on the box and hand it to him, and the new speaker should be on it's way to me tomorrow. Not one penny out of my pocket, and no holds on my credit card. Very good customer service!

Oh okay - not sure what your numbers translate to my "relative" ones (-16, -18, -20, etc.), but I'm sure the 30's are comparable. --- You own HELLBOY II? That's a Tremendous 7.1 (DTS-HD MA) Audio Track, & an EXTREMELY LOUD one at that!! One of my favorite Audio tracks EVER on a movie, & a fun movie also (lots of action, a bit of humor, crazy SFX).

When's the new spkr set to arrive? Early next week, or is he trying to get it to you before the wk-end?

Since it goes up to 72, that would put the halfway mark at 36, but yeah, I don't how that translates.

Yes, I have Hellboy II, and yes, it's one of my favorites. I love the surround sound when Prince Nuada is practicing with his spear in the sewer near the beginning of the movie. It's very smooth and subtle, but so realistic and engulfing. The battle at the end is freakin' sweet too!

I asked if it would be expedited, and he said just standard ground shipping, but my bookshelves that I got last week arrived two days after I ordered them, so going by that, it will hopefully be Friday.

I just went to the Lowest # available & It stopped at -82, & then went up to +2 or so & heard
[Show spoiler](this was all in PAUSE mode on a TV show, so NO Audio was happening )
some faint clipping & stopped (). So that's a pretty wide area

I know that scene of which you speak. --- Very cool sequence, editing, audio going around the room

That'll be great if they went Out yesterday (Tues.) from their warehouse, that gives 3-4 days to arrive (if the carrier delivers on Sat's.). Good luck buddy.

Thanks Tommy. To be honest, I probably had it turned up a good bit more than I should have, and that particular scene has some of the most insanely bombastic, speaker torturing audio of anything I've ever heard.

I'm not going to be timid with the new speaker, and I plan to put it through it's paces at somewhat reasonable levels, but I want to drive it enough that I'll know if it's going to hold up to what it should be able to do.

"I always test the transmission that way, the rear end, for stress factors."
