DVD release is the same everywhere. BD should be the same.

This is re Minority Report, yes? I don't know if you mean that BD releases should be the same, its a shame that they aren't, or if you're trying to say that the BDs ARE the same because the DVDs are? If its the latter, rest assured, the BD transfers ARE different. Though, as has been said, the difference appears to be negligible despite the lower bitrate in the European version.

from those new pics, seems like it's same transfer hmm, but different encoding...

Your in for a real treat! Can't wait to get my copy. I'm off work Thursdays and Fridays, so i'm sure I will be watching it, both those days.

That subtitle is for when the dialog in Na'vi.

Is the regular English subtitles for the BD use the same fonts?

I've watched the comparison screenshots at AVSforum and the differences are very, very, very minimal, so minimal that you just can't differentiate them in a ''random test'', I think.

So don't consider high bitrates as holy.
If you like holy things, read the Bible!

It's minimal, but it's visible instantly to my eyes. The grain structure is definitely stronger on the US release.

Difference in PQ usually happens when the BD is released by different studios. In the case of MR, Paramount in US and FOX in UK. It could be from the same transfer but with different encoding. FOX tamed down the bitrates to give space for the special features while Paramount put them on a separate disc.

If both UK and US released by the same studio, it's almost certain that they're exactly the same.

A note however, for Gladiator, both Universal and Paramount decided to use the same exact transfer and encoding (done by Universal).

I'm glad to see they kept the original subtitles for the Na'vi dialogue.

I was worried they would replace them with generic looking subtitle font as many films do in their home video releases.

Can't wait to get ahold of this !

That's because they're not subtitles. They're in-movie translations.

Subtitles are the things we turn on and off.

Those are part of the film whether we like it or not. The language was made up for the movie, so it's not like there are people out there that will understand what they're saying without the text translation...etc

I'm sure there are people already out there that can.
