Trying to keep a running list of titles that are somewhat confirmed that criterion will release at some point. I know Jarmusch at a screening months ago mentioned Coffee and Cigarettes. Deakins mentioned The Man Who Wasn’t There on his podcast. Of course the Wong Kar-wai set is heavily rumored. There’s the other 2 Netflix titles, and then Memories of a Murder. So the list I have is:

American Factory
Atlantics
Coffee and Cigarettes
The Man Who Wasn’t There
Memories of a Murder
and the Wong Kar-wai box set

Anything else somewhat confirmed?

You said it! We've already seen B&N block European customers because of data protection laws and Wow-HD have raised their prices significantly recently. It's getting to the point where importing will no longer be practicable

So is the answer to disband all Multinational companies? Amazon, Apple, Ford, Hyundai, Sony, Samsung etc., it's time to shut down because you may have to collect tax. We know you do it for most States, Counties and cities in the USA, but now to collect it for Ireland, Italy, or the UK makes it too hard to conduct business. Maybe states that are expected to collect property taxes for school districts, counties, cities, and special taxing districts are causing this strange world.

Only one this time around, but am looking forward to it. One of the few 5 (picture and audio) reviews I've seen on this very site!

A large number of overseas online stores stopped shipping to Australia when they did the same thing.

I'm debating on picking up 3 Silent Classics by Josef von Sternberg but I'm wondering how much rewatch value they would have for me. All three films would be a blind buy for me. Any thoughts?

Ranting aside, see below - which is to my point. Certain businesses will not want to be liable for collecting foreign tax revenue.

Ok, gonna try this out.

I posted what I got already, but I wanted to try again with the images. Previewing it seems like it worked. This is actually pretty cool!

I placed one order right as the sale started yesterday. I think I'm good until the Barnes and Noble sale.

Agreed - whether we like it nor not, each business will decide based on whether they believe the value of access to that market is worth the headache of collecting/remitting required taxes. But unfortunately, Criterion is not really comparable to Amazon, Apple, Ford or Samsung, so I think it's less likely they can justify the necessary infrastructure to manage that added requirement.

But...Criterion doesn't ship outside of the US anyway, so what does it matter in this specific case?

Indeed - but if you look back up the thread, it is nothing to do with Criterion shipping overseas, since I use a re-shipper; no matter who is going to ship it (in my case it would be Shipito) someone is going to have to collect the VAT. If the re-shipper doesn't do it, I'll have to pay the additional PO/courier handling charge on top when it reaches the UK.

The nub of the problem is that when the import threshold drops to zero (either in January or July next year) all packages will be liable to VAT. That additional cost simply makes it a non-starter for me. (Up till now, my packages have managed to escape).

To me, it doesn't seem right that the countries feel that the seller should collect these fees. That's why countries have customs offices. If you want to gouge your citizens, collect it yourself. Governments love to add more and more regulations to business, not realizing that business is what creates money, not governments.

Importing has gotten expensive the other way too. Shipping from Amazon UK to the US used to be reasonable, now it as much as doubles the total cost of a Blu-ray order.
