Always gives me chills! It's literally my favourite ending to any movie ever, starting from when Aunty drives off from Max after the plane takes. Love the last shot of Max's silhouette walking in the desert and that hole paragraph above is absolutely superb, especially the last few lines.

3D ain't dead! Still going strong I'm seeing a 3D movie theatrically this week. Pretty impressive for a 'dead' format.

Last thing I thought watching Fury Road was "this could look better."

Most stuff I've seen shot Arri Alexa looks good, not as good as film, but good. Red Shot stuff, at least Red Epic and back looks sub par unless in the right hands (Fincher or Soderbergh even though I still think the stuff they shot on film looked better, especialy Soderbergh).

I've never liked RED much, it looks more digital and artificial than Alexa. Whaddaya know, resolution ain't everything.

Probably doesn't help that many times RED is the go to camera for less experienced directors too. Like I said Fincher knows how to use it, everyone else, not so much. Still nothing he's shot since switiching to digital has looked anywhere near as good as S7ven, The Game, Fight Club, or Panic Room.

I watched The Road Warrior last night for the first time in maybe two years.

The low-budget really gives it a different look and feel than Fury Road imo.

How many of you Mad Max War Children think still think The Road Warrior is better?

...how many think Fury Road is better?

I rate them like this:

Mad Max - 8/10
The Road Warrior - 8.5/10
Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome - 7/10
Mad Max: Fury Road - 9/10

I just can't help being stuck on Fury Road. It's pure action bliss.

Road Warrior gets the nod just because it was something I had never seen at the time (Mad Max came out on video after the Road Warrior in the States). Plus, Gibson (pre-crazy sauce Mel, anyway) is my preference over Hardy.

(I just can't stand Hardy. It's a personal preference. Miller was smart a) focusing on Theron and b) not letting Hardy speak much.)

EDIT: That being said, Fury Road's action sequences are among the best I've ever seen.

The Road Warrior for me. The action is still amazing after all these years and not a computer pixel in sight. It has a great Brian May score. I really like Tom Hardy but Mel IS Mad Max. As much as I like Fury Road, it's really just variations on things done already in The Road Warrior just more slick. And The Road Warrior is pretty much perfect from beginning to end. Even the prologue is amazing.

There's something about the latent homoerotic S&M theme running through The Road Warrior that disturbs me.

I mean really, who wears assless leather chaps?

Even in a post-apocalyptic world where fashion choices are somewhat limited, who wears assless leather chaps as an everyday outfit?

Been a while since I've seen Road Warrior, but I still think I liked the character moments better in that one. For me the perfect Mad Max film would've been if you could get Mel Gibson circa Road Warrior into Fury Road. New Max had very little/no personality. That being said I'm glad that Fury Road got shelved back in the mid-2000's because by that point I don't think Gibson would've been right for the part.

It almost was:

"Fury Road was in development hell for many years, with Miller first attempting to shoot the film in 2001. However, due to the September 11th attacks, shooting was delayed and Miller decided to focus on Happy Feet. In 2003, Miller finished the script for a fourth film, and the film was green-lighted with a US$100 million budget. However, production was delayed again, and then cancelled after the start of the Iraq War. Mel Gibson, originally set to reprise his role as Max, departed from the project after the cancellation. By 2007, Miller was pursuing the film again, and in 2009, it was announced that the film would instead be a 3D animated film..."

Yeah that's what I was saying, I'm glad that got shelved because I think what we ended up with is probably a better film than if we had a 50 yr. old Max running around if it would've been made back in '03. Thank God it didn't end up as an animated film!

I always thought it would've been interesting to find out what happened to Max as an old man.

Did he end up in a better place?

...or was he just doomed to wander the wasteland until his hip gave out.
