I have not seen this movie but heard good things about it. Is it worth blind buying?

not really. I have some very good friends in the industry who are critics and who do write reviews, hence how i also get movies as early as they do. We as movie goers and BD enthusiast watch movies together(or sometimes at the same time but in our own homes) and sit around in our spare time and discuss these. We'll bounce things around and sometimes it makes it into their reviews--or not. LOL I don't work in the industry so i just do it for fun plus I get free BDs out of the deal and they get a friend to bounce ideas and opinions to and out of. I'm by no means an expert as i do get some things wrong at times. But i do know enough now a days to hang in there with them. LOL Sometimes they'll see things and nitpick at things i just don't see or agree with. But that's why i don't do it for a living. LOL Can't say who they are or where they work though.

Not that it really matters, but it's still a blind buy if you've seen the trailer. I've seen the trailer for most of the movies I have blind bought on Blu-Ray, but it would still be considered blind buying. Once again, it's not really a big deal, so don't worry about it.

Nothing's worth a blind buy. About this movie specifically I have a few friends who usually see eye-to-eye with me on movies; I loved District 9 and some of them were super disappointed in it. I think it's a love it or hate it kind of movie.

The same can be said before someone buys a Blu-Ray.

I dont even have a bluray player but got this preordered, I worked out a deal with a seller so I can have this a little earlier than december 22, however I had to pay the retail 30 dollars, no discounts, but whatever, small price to pay to have one of my favorite movies on bluray.

From my experience and reading reactions around the interweb, District 9 is more of a "love it or love it" kind of movie.

Exclamation Steelbook & Pricing

The only thing that really irks me is how the disributors here n South Africa don't get the consumers for Blu-ray! We want steel books for our releases, but instead they give all the DVDs the steelbooks! To be honest I don't know why they are doing this - steelbooks should go to the elite format - to the future, not to try and sell more DVDs...honestly!

I hate that SA is getting every steelbook release, but instead the distributors are filling them with ancient technology...and still charging us ridiculous Blu-ray prices....!!!

I understand the Steelbooks adding maybe $4/$5 (R32/R40) onto the price, as in the case with SA DVDs, but we still pay R 300 for new Blu-ray releases - that's equivalent to $ 40.80 - hideous!!! That's more than enough to cover the costs! At least I think so...

I just hope South Africa goes the American/European route and drops our Blu-rays to DVD prices! That would be great!

The only good thing we have down here in SA, is getting releases a little earlier than around the world - which is simply awesome! Anything from a couple days to a couple months - in this regard I am ecstatic!!
