Right, I thought I saw a comment about the single disc German version that only had English language on the flat Blu-ray and not the 3D version. Got a little muddled.

Cheers

I think I got mixed up with the French version, someone stated that it has 3D and flat on the same disc but only English track on flat.

Hi 13,

Can't understand why so much confusion? Thought you knew us better by now.

That french version should be condemned to the oblivion and from existence.

I watched Viy today. Like Three Musketeers it has great 3D design but I think lovers of pop out won't have much too complain about here There are some spectacular pop outs with objects coming at you in slow motion then coming to a dead stop in front of your face. If @JD3D can't see pop out in this movie then maybe he should just buy a VR headset and be done with it (and possibly a stronger pair of glasses )

Also like Three Musketeers it has great audio which up-mixes well to DTS-Neural-X adding excellent height effects to the already immersive sound design. Another fun and dumb movie but with much better use of 3D. If you don't already have this in your collection then get a copy already

I've seen the scene with the fish popping out, albeit in 2D. Looks like it should be great. Haven't seen this in 3D yet, the watch group believes Jackie Chan and Da Ahnuld each haven't made a good film since the 00s, and so fear their bad movie powers combined

If they made stronger 3D glasses then I'd be all for them. VR is in the offing (one of my pals with an Oculus is moving, which means it'll finally see the light of day again; VR novelty memes are real), but it's not something you can use with other people in the same room, as Demolition Man predicted

That's Iron Mask you are thinking of, which is a loose sequel and a very different film (the scenes with Jackie Chan and Arnold Schwarzenegger are a lot of fun however, it makes me wish they were the leads rather than extended cameos).

Viy has solid literary source material and is also a remake of an older film (also very good) so is a much better film.

Although explained (as always) on the first post, here are images of the front and a legible back cover of the German release that I can recommend for folks in the US who can play region B discs. One of my all-time favorites with crazy monsters, a fun story and great 3d imho. This movie is the reason I got a region-free player to start with and have been able to enjoy so many other region-locked 3DBRs since!

I dont think many have noticed but Viy 3D is a re-interpretation of older Viy movie. The magic scenes of older Viy are revealed to be trickery, false tales, dreams and hallucinations in new Viy. Except for a throwaway scene at the end, Viy 3D is more of a mystery movie rather than a supernatural tale.

If anyone is planning to view Viy 3D, I strongly suggest that older Viy be seen first to get the context.

For those who haven't watched this movie yet, you might want to put some of your comments in a spoiler tag.

After your explanation, the movie intro makes a little more sense and doesn't feel so much like a parlour trick. I'm guessing different decisions were made as they went along but they kept the great looking opening.

They're not trickery. That's a conclusion that the main character comes to in error at the end of the film, attempting to make sense of it all. The final scene with the monk is there to show that he was wrong and that it really happened.

[Show spoiler] The monk being alive is part of the mystery that gets solved at the end in this new movie. In the original tale (the old movie), the monk really did die after seeing the supernatural events when locked up. In the new movie, the twist, was he was just knocked out and he didnt actually see any ghost/demons
