Update:

Quote:
The first film in the trilogy will be released theatrically on October 13, 2023, and Gordon Green suggests in a new chat with Collider that he’s planning on directing all three movies.

Gordon Green is also co-writing the trilogy with Peter Sattler, and he tells Collider: “I’m sure I’ll know more a year from now when I’ve gotten a handle on what Exorcist is. The script’s written. And it was a very, entirely different writing process [from the Halloween trilogy].”

He continues in the chat with Collider, “The first one of our trilogy is written and the second two are being outlined. So we’ve got a ways to go on that, but we know where we’re going. It’s a new journey [with] some familiar characters and some new ones as well.”

First Halloween, now Green is all about an Exorcist trilogy. Truth be told I'm enjoying his Halloweens so far but I'm very VERY wary about these new Exorcist installments. The original was brilliant and the third is quite effective too. I really don't think a reboot is going to satisfy.

Are they swimming in debt? Nope. Actually they are debt-free and want to use the funds raised from the sale to go into funding a number of new properties that they are looking to move forward on.

Deadline reports: "As part of any sale, Morgan Creek would retain remake rights for five titles — Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Major League, Young Guns, Flying Tigers and The Exorcist — but pay a percentage of the gross profit to the new owner of the library." Morgan Creek CEO Jim Robinson informed Deadline that remakes are currently in the works for several of those properties, including The Exorcist.

The Exorcist (1973), directed by William Friedkin and starred Max von Sydow and Linda Blair, is still considered one of the scariest films ever produced. It's about a 12-year-old girl named Regan (Blair) who becomes possessed by the devil after playing with a Ouija board. Father Karras (Jason Miller) and Father Merrin (Sydow) are called in to help, but what they experience is no run of the mill exorcism.

Thanks.

--------------

The amazing make up and detail put into the classic Regan Demon face of evil needs to return IMO for the Exorcist franchise, in terms of make up work. The eyes especially. To me, that takes the horror to the next level, compared to just looking at a normal person acting crazy with demonic voices.

When they just blacken out the eyes and show a few scratches, that's not enough IMO.

Make the possessed person look like they're from Hell or something, like the original and best Exorcist. The other films rarely get the look right.

Although Exorcist 3 I do like in terms of a horror film with the scare factor in that hospital hall scene, and the senior living center.

They should hire John Boorman to direct a follow-up to The Heretic.

Kind of funny to see the indie prodigy of Terrence Malick fall into stoner comedy return to heartfelt indie drama then swept into bigger budget basic drama and then finally lapse into horror. Which it seems like he's staying for a good while.

I hope that "journey with some familiar characters" includes Linda Blair reunited with Ellen Burstyn for one or two of the sequels.

Last I read online Blair confirmed she hasn't been approached about participating in the first film, but hopefully she gets the opportunity to reprise her iconic role of Regan again.

After seeing Halloween Kills I shudder to think of the colossal mess DGG could make out The Exorcist.

I don't mind them trying to make sequels to the Exorcist. I hope they do their best. However, they should know that there is no way it will be better than the original Exorcist. The original is pretty much perfect. My favorite horror movie of all time. You can't improve upon a perfect movie. What I'm waiting for as others have said is the 4K UHD version of the original.

Season 1 is great. Season 2 is ok. I was hoping they would go out with a third but that didn't happen.

Halloween 2018 certainly isn't a better movie than the 1978 original. But it is still a good and worthwhile follow-up. I sure don't expect them to improve on an iconic classic, just make a good movie.

Let's hope they can recall what made the William Friedkin/William Peter Blatty original work in the first place and build on that.
