All Star Wars references aside, it's about bloody time. I can't WAIT to hear from Universal and Paramount now.

It's time to focus our energy and strength against sDVD.

So I noticed they did not mention any plans for Blu-ray directly. When will Toshiba start making plans to release/develop a Blu-ray player?

So is this for real? Has Toshiba really waved their white flag? Have they stopped making hd-dvd discs?

I just got up, so I missed the big announcement.

From Engadget :

In the Q&A session following Toshiba's HD DVD dumping event in Japan, Atsutoshi Nishida, President and CEO of Toshiba Corporation made a bit of a surprise announcement. While it remains committed to standard DVD, they have "no plan at all at this moment" to take up the Blu-ray format. He also stated that Tosh has no plans for a next-next gen format at all. Perhaps they are just licking their wounds until HD downloads become a reality.

In many ways, we all knew the format war was over back in January with Warner's announcement, but it sure feels great to get the official confirmation of victory straight from Toshiba.

I am happy I jumped in before the format war was decided and helped fight for the side/format that I believed was the best technological choice for consumers and it feels truly great to see that very format finally emerge victorious!

It is so awesome to actually see the technologically superior format win for a change, and have a real shot at mass market adoption. This can only mean great things for movie/film enthusiasts and next generation optical data storage.

The Future Truly is Blu!

The more I think about it, the more I dont believe them. I mean, all the people out there who fed into HDDVD would be pretty angry if they said "Oh and by the way our first Bluray player is ready to ship.". I think they already have one made and ready to go. Theyll let this whole thing blow over first though.
