I remember seeing this in theaters when I lived in England. I don't remember much about it except for a battle of creatures at the end. Is this worth a blind buy? Some films from back then just have not aged well.

Not worth a blind buy at the LE price. The non-limited edition may be worth it.

I love the film, but it is not for everyone.

I've seen printed books and bookstores pretty well dry up to varying degrees - particularly the sort of writings that I enjoy. Music selection on CD has greatly dwindled for sure. Other people can stock their bunker with canned goods, I'll stick with Blu-rays. I don't want to see the day, that the only thing left for me to watch is another exploitative reality show or trite sitcom. I just don't see myself joining the "streaming revolution". I'm a bit too old-fashioned for that.
Exactly this.

We've already lost so much due to the continuing demise of physical media. People don't realize exactly how much.

Yet some people are already talking about a 4K scan of this. I would say this is the end of the line for this film with this cut.

Me. I was simply making the point that the LE (or Shout factory) release is not the end all of releases for Nightbreed; It still has to get an international blu-ray release as Shout is region locked, to my knowledge they do not own the rights eternally...

I was simply stating the possibility that another label might do a different transfer down the road. People then replied by saying this couldn't be done after all the hard work Shout put in, well guess what, it is now easier to do so because the foundation is there.

Who would have believed ten years ago that we'd see a high definition version of the director's cut of Nightbreed? We were happy we had a widescreen dvd of the existing version. Now there is a blu-ray. Who knows in the (near) future we might have a 4K edition (or whatever's the standard then). Will be it be released on blu-ray? Hard to tell as it will most likely be digital by then. Check Itunes.

Again, my point I was making is that on a short term basis, the Shout is all we have, on a long term basis, who is to say which versions will exist? It isn't even released yet until october. The Alien 3 director's cut when first released on dvd is not the same as the one that ended up on the blu-ray where they went back and fixed problems with it. Versions can get improved upon. It's up to Shout to make sure theirs will set the bar high enough.

Anyway, yes, uninteresting now.
Agreed, poor phrasing. Personally I've seen very little to none of what I'd consider excess whining here (though I haven't followed the thread all that closely...enough to get what's transpired). I just meant that if someone honestly got that impression and felt compelled to say something about it, it wouldn't necessarily constitute "siding" with SF. Or put another way, it's conceivable to feel some are whining a little too much/question the reason(s) for disappointment (e.g. squandered scalping opportunities) and also feel this was somewhat underhanded on SF's behalf.

I guess what would trouble me about this release being expanded to 10,000 units is the potential price drops. If I was a big enough fan of the film to lay down $80 for it and later saw it drop in price b/c SF overestimated the demand , I'd be pissed. This is definitely a possibility at this point. I can see this dropping in price to $30 or $40 before they sell out completely.

IF that is not the case, then I say more power to SF to make more money and satisfy more fans. It's supply and demand folks and if they can get it, then why shouldn't they.

As for scalpers, this seems like too big an investment. Even without the increased production run, laying down $80 for a possible resell profit seems rather risky, esp. with the initial 5000 units out there and potentially a third or half being bought for the secondary market. Now with 10,000 units and all the possible cancellations from resellers, it might actually be cheaper to buy it off eBay after release than from Shout Factory, or even Amazon.

It is really hard for me to believe there are 10,000 fans of this movie willing to pay $80 (or even $55) to be complete. Most on here seem to think it's OK or they are Scream Factory fans and want to be complete. But c'mon $80 for a single movie. I can't think of any movie I'd pay that much for.

I haven't even seen this movie. I may need to dig out my DVD copy I got at a pawn shop last year and check i out.

Canceled my best buy order and got it from scream direct since they added 5000 more copies. I'm getting it a week early, free shipping a poster and a bonus gift so I think that's pretty good if you ask me and it's limited so yeah baby!

I feel your pain: I've managed to keep the bathrooms off limits, but every other room has piles of Blus, DVDs, and books everywhere. Starting to feel like one of those people they show on "Hoarders"...

For me, the single biggest question is.....how the hell did Scream Factory get Warner Brothers to license out a title of theirs??? To my knowledge, they have outright refused such a practice in the past. HOW did that deal get done? (aaaaand they even got WB to allow them to double their run on the LE.)

Clearly, Shout! gave WB free memberships to BJs Wholesale Club. I also assume that the upgrade to 10,000 required negotiating more free memberships to BJs Wholesale Club on the part of Shout! Factory.

WB doesn't care about the fate of many horror titles in their catalog, unless the film is well-known or critically acclaimed. I hope they give The Exorcist III over to Shout! sometime, that movie got shafted just as much as Night Breed.

Same way Criterion got the rights to Badlands, I guess. Only the Criterion isn't limited.

And "allowing" Shout to double their run almost certainly necessitated a bigger licensing fee, so that's also not surprising, since money talks.

That was through producer Edward Pressman, not WB themselves.

Yeah these are just super rare WB flukes. They are still greedy.
