I would rather it went to Criterion also... but as long as the 4Ki doesn't have completely new color tinting etc I don't care at this point. It could be a blessing in disguise. so PLEASE don't let it be plagued with bad color correction.

Glad to cross this one off my wishlist. Now if I could only get the original Flight of the Phoenix (and short of a Phantasm announcement), my year will be made.

My copy of Sisters is region-free, so I guess I got lucky. Worth picking up a region-free player just for their run of De Palma releases, though...even the ones that have region A releases have extras exclusive to Arrow, and sometimes far better transfers (like The Fury). I have both the Arrow and Criterion versions of Dressed To Kill and Blow Out.

I am sure Criterion will release Sisters sooner or later. They have it on Hulu (or at least, they used to).
Thanks. I just re-watched Sisters on hulu. Any idea how often the Arrow sale happens?

Regarding minimalist (comic art) vs. floating head: I get that the composition of the floating heads isn't super creative, but the art is well executed, with good likenesses, and many times, done with a real paintbrush (a lost art). I feel like, if I tried really hard, I could do the minimalist comic style myself, whereas the fully painted art requires more skill and likeness capturing. I think we can all agree movie poster art is not what it once was, but I think it's important to recognize (and if warranted) praise the painterly style of artwork which has become considered "old fashioned", even if the studio or art director demanded the artist include as many faces of the actors in the composition as possible.

Yeah, I'm really glad they did a reversal this time. People that love the regular Scream Factory art can still get it, and those of us who didn't think it was appropriate with this film get something quite different. Good for them!

This is kind of a ridiculous argument - that since "you could do it yourself" it isn't as impressive. Do you think the same thing about all artwork? It's not like Vermeer is objectively superior to Picasso just because it's harder for someone who doesn't know how to paint to make a rough copy. The thought and style of it counts. And in cases of promotional art like this, the relevance to the movie's themes count too. I think the 80s mainstream adventure style that Scream likes is perfect with films like Escape From New York or even Mad Max, but with a raw and emotional movie like this it just doesn't seem like that template should be forced on it. Fortunately, they left the option open for those that disagree with me.

I don't LOVE the new artwork either, but I like that it's something else. It kinda reminds me of some of the more interesting Arrow art like Invasion of the Body Snatchers or Rabid.

okay why does the Scream Factory page for the SE note that you will get only a 'FREE 18" X 24" POSTER featuring our brand new artwork, available while supplies last!' but for the LE the page notes that you will get 'TWO FREE SLIPCASES and TWO FREE POSTERS featuring both of our newly commissioned artwork (Limited to 2,000 units)!' This makes it sound like they are planning to ship the SE with no Slip and the LE with 2 slips

EDIT: nevermind, this was clarified on their Facebook page

4K scan from OCN, loaded with extras. It doesn't get any better than this.

And, yet, some people are disappointed because Criterion didn't get it? That's a fanboy talk right there.

I don't think there's much to be disappointed about if Scream is going to be handed a 4k transfer from the negative. The Criterion would have a sturdier case, the artwork would be a little bit "artier," and the interviews would be conducted slightly more professionally. I REALLY doubt the transfer would be different.

If Criterion got "Carrie", i'm actually positive the cover art would've been identical to this release's standard edition cover art, albeit with the classic Criterion logos and whatnot.

You are correct, the art itself on their floating head covers is done well and it definitely takes skill.

I just find their covers try so hard to include every character or sequence in a film that it's almost like watching a spoiler-filled trailer of the movie just by looking at the cover. Oh yeah, there's Piper Laurie crucified, there's William Katt getting hit on the head, etc. Ya, we've all seen the films before, but do we really need a 'table of contents' plastered on the cover right before we are about to experience the film again? The minimalist covers at least leave something to the imagination and make me want to revisit a film without seeing everything in advance.

And yes, you can flip over the covers and file the slips away, but if you have your collection logged in at filmaf like I do, they always use the slip cover as their photos so you can't escape them completely.

Thanks, I was wondering when the next one was or how often they have it. I may pick up a region free player soon. Mostly for the DePalma (Arrow) and Tarkovsky (AE) releases.

Told ya! And 4K from the negative is a game changer for Shout, they've had plenty of geek cred for the longest time because of the added bits and pieces, packaging and extras and whatnot, but remastering Carrie from the negative up is a bold statement of intent.

.....And pre-ordered the Deluxe edition! The posters are what got me to bite on that. This is one of my favorite films, and I've been wanting a better Blu-ray for a while now. The new extras sound really cool, but anything's better than the barebones MGM Blu-ray. Not sure what to do with the second slip though. Might put it on my MGM Blu-ray, before I find a way to get rid of that release.

What makes you think they had anything to do with it? I bet MGM did it on their own and then decided they didn't feel like releasing a physical copy themselves. The recent 2K transfers I am sure Scream did, but this seems quite unlikely since it would have been expensive on a level they couldn't afford.

Yeah, it's a pretty lame poster. I like the cover of the MGM DVD/Blu-ray.
