There are several benefits in this Disney plan by creating a U.S.A. demand when milking this particular cow.

No, the stupid U.S. 3D delay is to "milk the cow" (as Ernest Rister put it in the other Frozen thread) by double-dipping it on BD3D in the fall. (Edit: Think Avatar, since Frozen's worldwide box office is heading to Cameron-esque levels.) Based on last year's The Jungle Book I suspect the UK BD3D may be region-locked (never fully trust Amazon on region coding), but I can handle that. For now I'd rather double-dip with the Vudu in-store preorder (early 2D download, hopefully add Google Play with DC+ code for my Nook HD) plus UK BD3D than support Vudu's highway-robbery 3D library OR wait for the U.S. BD3D. (Of course I could change my mind, but then I still have my Mexican Dumbo BD and have NO intent of ever buying the U.S. BD. )

so it's been confirmed for a Fall release then ?? (i.e, a US release) or is this still speculation.

Speculation. No one really knows anything at this point.

I was going to go for the UK version, but I am thinking that there will be probably be a 3D version a little while after, one that includes the cast doing the songs for the first time live together:

On the Scene: 'Frozen' cast performs live for the first (and probably only) time ever

Since I love the music, and Bell and Menzel, if this is on with the 3D version, it's a no brainer.

Just remember, if you order the set from the UK, unless you have a region free/PAL compatible DVD player, the DVD will be useless. (I assume some of you have kids with DVD players in their rooms.)

but even with the success and appeal of this movie - the supplements are a bit of a letdown - Disney not only needs to release a 3D version in the States, but needs to expand the supplements:

- a longer 'making of'
- a commentary track

to entice a double dip they'd have to more than just add a 3D version in my mind.

Only the 2D UK set comes with DVD (PAL, of course); the 3D set has only BDs (2D & 3D). That, in large part, is why I decided to get the Walmart/Vudu preorder *after* preordering the 3D from Amazon UK; that gives me at least one, probably two 2D DCs (Vudu + Google Play for me, though others will pick Vudu + iTunes or AIV), plus DVD, plus 2D BD that will all work with my NON-region-free players even *if* the UK set is region-locked (better safe than sorry).

Disney is dreaming if they think 3D streaming is going to catch on and be accepted. The price points on VUDU for Frozen 3D is $5-$6 for rental and $35 for owning! WOW!! have any of you actually tried 3D on streaming? Its TERRIBLE, its so compressed, and if you are used to Blu-ray you will find it unwatchable. Just go to vudu and you can try a free sample of Tangled 3D

It's what I would call informed speculation. While one caller to WDSHE got the dubious "mastering error" claim, another got that it's coming in the fall. Others in the other thread have pointed out that with no Pixar movie this year, Disney needs a "new release" on the animated front (other than Planes: Fire & Rescue and the like) for Xmas; Big Hero 6 in theaters plus the latest Ghibli via Touchstone on BD (The Wind Rises, possibly The Tale of Princess Kaguya) won't fill the bill.

Though Frozen will get 3D streaming along with 2D at Vudu on 2/25, it's plainly a nonstarter. *If* Vudu offered it with backwards compatibility (i.e., 2D HDX, HD & SD as well as 3D HDX & HD) for that price I *might* try it; but at that price for *just* risky 3D streaming, I'd rather get the 2D BD/DVD/DC and then double-dip in BD3D (UK now or more than likely U.S. later).

Angry Region-Free but...

Does anyone here know definitively if the UK 3D version will NOT be 1080i50? $30 (or whatever the conversion works out to be) is too much for me to gamble on as my new Sony player is not compatible with 1080i50. I would love to believe that since it is region free that it also means it is 1080p24.

There are very few releases that are released in that format. Some of them are from television broadcasts or shot on video, like [REC]. The only other one I can think of is Planet Dinosaur 3D. Check out bluray.liesinc.net . It will specify I believe. You can always wait for someone to verify before you order.

I purchased one of the Toy Story 3D shorts and it wasn't too bad. Not as good as Blu-ray though.

Ohh, Dumbo! I remember that one!
Wasn't that the US title Disney delayed to be "evil", or "had some cross-promotional delay up their sleeve", and it WASN'T some mastering problem back in the early days, when their beginning, overworked facilities could only process two or three major-edition Diamond Blu's a year?--And because it was coming so soon in proximity to the Fantasia disk that was also "suspiciously" delayed for months (probably because they were going to strip it off the Platinum list)?

You know, it's one thing about Disney, they never have mastering problems! That's just a story they give out to gullible people, to hide their world-domination conspiracies!

My experience has been the opposite with VUDU HDX 3D. I own Sammy's Adventure 1, The Blu Umbrella, & have tried streaming all of the 3D samples and they all play flawlessly and look great.
I did a test with my wife and a couple of friends that were over to watch some 3D movies with us. I played my Blu-ray import of Sammy and the VUDU HDX 3D Sammy for them and each person said they look the same and have the same 3D effect.
I'm not a big fan of streaming or having digital download versions of movies, but VUDU HDX is easily the closest I've seen & heard to Blu-ray.

why would you think that. This is a Disney release. They are not gonna release this movie in 1080i. It will be in 1080p

I will give it another look.. but the Tangled sample was not pretty.

Also.. think about the bit rate required to stream ... Blu-ray 3D runs about 20-30 Mbps most people don't have nearly that speed available and I promise you vudu isn't sending 30mbps to your house even if you have 100mb fibre internet. So something's got to give.. its called compression.

The only compromise I would ever make for owning a only a "digital only" copy of a Blu-ray is that more devices like smart tvs and smart Blu-ray players need to start having a couple hundred GB of on board storage.. that way if I want to watch Frozen 3D. I can pre-download the 40+GB uncompressed file of the movie and keep it stored locally as I watch it.. it stays on my device until I choose to delete it to make room for more downloads, and I can always re-download it. But to truly stream it... it will never be Blu-ray quality any time soon.

Actually, a 5-year-old typically does the most foolish thing imaginable: He actually believes whatever stupid lie an "authority figure" tells him. How do you think Santa Claus enjoys such enduring popularity?

Unfortunately, all too many people never grow out of this habit of gullibility.

Which is pretty much exactly what you could say about their DigitalCopyPlus partnerships with Vudu, Amazon, iTunes, Google, etc.

Of course, dumb ol' me, I'm thinking they'll just be adding it to the DCP list--
I'm obviously missing some deep corporate conspiracy about how Disney's "behind" it and using it to "replace" all other hard-disk options in the future, could someone help me out here?
Disney is not licensing its movies to Vudu the way that other studios are. Other studios are permitting disc-to-digital conversion for as little as $1 per movie (high-definition!). Disney is not.
