everyone in the user reviews seemed to like it!

...except for one guy, but sounded like he either got a bad drive to start, or just didn't know how to connect it properly (or even format it correctly).

Just updated my PS3 with a 320 GB Harddrive from Samsung (link) ... Price about 160 $

Everything works fine. Backuped my old 60 GB harddrive and restored it on to the 320 GB harddrive. Got almost everything:
Savegames - check
Games - check
Mediafiles - check
Trohpies - missing!

Trophies are probably not written into the backup program yet. Maybe an oversight on Sony's part.

Trophy status is recorded on your PSN account so I don't see why you'd need a local record backed up unless you earned a trophy while offline.

I just had to complete one trophy. Left the game, watched my trophies get sync. and there they were ... back at last

I just bought the Western Digital 320 GB Scorpio Sata 5400 Rpm HD. It should arrive tomorrow. Before then, I would like to back up all of my info on my PS3. Does anyone know if I will be able to back it up to my iPod Classic? I have the 160GB model and was just wondering if the PS3 will transfer EVERYTHING to my iPod so I can install my new HD when it comes tomorrow.

I am guessing that it is possible because a simple google search brought up this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLSaCGTQMC8

The problem is, that link is blocked at my work (as is the whole youtube site) so I would like to know of someone can watch it and let me know if it is indeed possible. I won't be able to watch that video for a couple days, so I would like to know if i need to order anything else if my iPod won't work.

Thanks!

I am trying to watch the vid for you. i am in Manila on business and my internet connection is sub par so it is taking awhile to buffer. What i was able to gather so far is it cannot be a nano or Touch. He is using an Ipod Classic.

As long as the PS3 can recognize that the Ipod as a mass storage devise yuo should be ok to use it to back up the PS3. The backup will backup everything except games purchased from the PS store. All game data, game saves, pics, vids, and music will be backed up along with your system settings. I will try to watch more of the vid for you.

Ok, i finally Finished watching the vid. Basically you need to make sure that Disc Cue is enambled on the Ipod before plugging the Ipod into the PS3. Once that is good to go hook up to the PS3 and it will recognize it as a removeable storage device. Go to settings, Go to Back Utility, and backup. Yup it was that simple really....good luck.

Yes, I finally was able to fic my damn router at home. I watched the video and my PS3 is actually backing up all of my data to my iPod as I am typing this (8% complete, 44 minutes left ) and I also have the iPod Classic (160GB) so I am glad that it will work. I will of course still have my original 60GB HD with everything on it so I will be able to reinstall it if I run into any problems.

Anyways, thanks VERY MUCH for checking. I just wanted to be sure everything would work before my new 320(!)HD comes from UPS tomorrow.

Thank again!!!

(This needs to hurry up and get done so I can go shoot up some n00bs on COD:4!!!)

Well, that went shitty. I got 3 screws out no problem, but the 4 one is COMPLETELY stripped out with other other possible way of getting it out.

Does anyone know if you can buy the steel case that the Hard Drive rests in? I tried calling customer service, and they are a bunch of retards. No help, whatsoever.

This blows. I think if I can't buy the steel case, I will just say screw it and return the new Hard Drive I just bought.

Can you remove the HDD from the casing? If you can, you can carefully drill the stripped screw out of there. If not, file the screw till its flushed with the HDD. You can screw in the HDD with 3 screws and it'll still hold.

Now if you CAN'T remove the HDD, then you need to carefully drill the stripped screw out of there to get the HDD out of the casing.

I finally got around to upgrading my 60GB PS3 with a Western Digital 160GB hard drive, it only took an hour for the whole shebang. I was quite pleased with how easily and quickly it went.

I had the same problem when I was upgrading my hard drive. I did call Sony support and got lucky enough to get a decent rep. They have ordered for me the replacement tray and screws. Only problem is this set is on backorder, so still waiting on shipment. If you get a less then helpful one, try someone else.

just got a toshiba 320gig for about 129 clams, and was wondering if it was worth it?

1. what makes you want to upgrade your hard drive?
2. i dont really use it for music/videos, so im assuming most of y'all do that for that purpose. so, the reason why i probably got it was for 'game saves', and well, i dont know what benefits i would have from doing so.
3. convince me why i need to keep this.

i havent opened it at all, neither did i bother with the external case i got for it. so for the meantime, im just sitting on it with my hands on my buttocks.

maybe its a matter of 'is it worth it for me' kinda purchase.

thanks for the info gentlemen.

Default My Upgrade Problem

I had a problem (and solution) with the backup and transfer to new HD. My 60 gig which was almost full backed up OK onto a external 1 TB drive. When going to copy everything back the PS3 would give an error "No back up found" or something like that. What was happening was the PS3 would see the backup directory and then it reboots just before the transfer takes place. My external drive at this point would spin down for some reason, and the PS3 could no longer find it. A quick flip of the power switch on the external drive fixed this. Hope this helps someone.

Cheers

If youre only doing game saves then you probably dont need one that big. Bigger then the stock HDD yes, but not a 320. I have the 320 cause i have tons of vids, music, photos, etc. Im downloading more games from PSN now and i think well see more games like Siren: blood curse from now on. That whole game is 10gb. You dont sound like youll use the psn video store, but who knows maybe you will for rentals. I think for $129 unless you need the money or something id just keep it.

Besides "Before you unscrew, tap gently on the screws several times to loosen their grip from the HDD"?

If the screws are damaged, drill the screws out. Or get a new tray from SCE.
