Default Upgrading a Laptop drive

I want to upgrade my dvd drive in my Laptop to a blu-ray drive. Can this be done?? and where would be good place to get a Laptop drive. Just wondering if you guys have any insight on this matter. I want to do this becuase my laptop has a hdmi output.

Well that depends, what type of laptop do you own? I know of some that you can get that might only work in certain laptops, like rebranded sager (alienware etc.) those generally run $500-$600. I assume that you could contact your manufacturer and see if they will sell you one. Depending on your laptop there may or may not be a drive that will fit it. I know Panasonic makes one (Panasonic UJ-220 and 225). Otherwise you can get an internal drive (there is a Lite-On model for less than $200 on newegg) and simply put it in an external case. It would be best to do this through a 1394 connection if you have one.

I would recommend before any of that, try connecting your laptop to your TV though the HDMI, depending on your video card, you may not be interested. I purchased a Sony Vaio with Blu-ray about a year ago, when I plugged it into my television the native resolution was awful, so I returned it.

Hey, thanks for the reply. That was alot of info. I'll look in to thoughs model numbers and I guess I will contact HP, see what they can do. BTW, yes it is a HP laptop. Thanks again
