Default New CD Drive for Laptop

Does anyone know how to get a new cd drive for a laptop, how much it would cost, and how to install? My old laptop's cd drive is screwy so I can no longer import CD's to my computer.

I've seen some external ones on newegg, that plug into the USB port, are they any good?

uhhh why not just get a DVD drive? DVD drives are fairly cheap now. It's been at least 10 years since I have seen a computer with a CD only drive in it.

USB would be the easiest seeing how you don’t actually have to put it in your computer.

It’s depends on what kind of laptop you have. Drives aren’t usually that hard to swap out.

considering i'm not that good with computers, I think a USB would be the best option. How would a USB DVD drive/burner cost? It would good for me to use for uploading cd's to the computer, and then I could back up all my music on dvd-r's and transfer my music when I get a new computer.

it's actually quite easy to replace it internally.....
I've replaced HD DVD with BD drive. Question I want to ask is what is the computer brand, and how old is the computer.

If it's Toshiba/ASUS, then you'll need drive that is 9.5mm thick.
While the other uses 12.8mm

Normally you just need to open one screw, and pull the drive out

External, I don't know, but I've seen DVD-ROM/CD-RW for £35

well it's an IBM thinkpad laptop. I just thought it would be harder since it's a laptop, and pretty much everything is harder with a laptop because stuff is so small. I just want to be able to add more cd's to itunes, but the computer is 5 years old and the cd drive is broken

well, as a matter of fact, it is easier in laptop to change the drive than it is to change it on desktop. I did this many times in less than a minute. PM me for more details/send me more details.
